Thees are beer commercials in Iceland.

http://www.kvikmynd.is/myndband.asp?id=1077 - Icelandic joke, Sorry England. Americans love that joke. :)

http://www.kvikmynd.is/myndband.asp?id=424 - Jón Páll Strongest man in the world.

http://www.kvikmynd.is/myndband.asp?id=629 - Anglo-Icelandic Cod War

http://www.kvikmynd.is/myndband.asp?id=630 - Lithuania

On another note here is a commercial on road safety that has won awards world wide (an Icelandic commercial).
I wanted to put this here because my friend is singing the song that you hear in the commercial. She is really good but the song is in Icelandic.

She just gave out her first CD this Christmas. :)
She is a solo artist for the most part but is also involved in a band.

Icelandic is officially the new best language in the world.

Of course, this changes rather frequently. Last week it was Ugdudi.

Very funny, that first commercial. Of course, I'm American, so I suppose I'm expected to like it, eh?

I've seen it in writing before, but I've never heard it. It's very fluid, not what I'd expected. What with all the thorns and eths and whatnot.

I notice also that in some commericials, the slogan at the end (Best in the World) is sometimes in English and sometimes in Icelandic. I MUST KNOW WHY!!

Is it because English is such a widely spoken tongue in Iceland?

Also, by how much does Iceland kick Greenland's ass?

No, the English versions are for contests outside of Iceland. The judges understand it better then. We only speak Icelandic, it's our national language and we are very protective of it but many do speak other languages but only so they can speak to outsiders.

Your second question, can you give me a better idea of what you mean? I will answer it better then. Do not really know what you mean with "Kick ass", sorry. The context that is.

Have you ever heard of Sigur Rós?
They're a band from Iceland, and they were the first time I heard it out loud.

I don't know if all their material is in Icelandic, but I know that their album Ágætis Byrjun is.

Ooh, they have some free tracks from Ágætis Byrjun up on Amazon!

Its what they called the "sounds and words" on that album, because it doesn't actually translate to Icelandic. I think :)

Strange like...Bjork strange? :)

Heh...Björk is nice but weird, freeky and a free spirit all in one. Yeah, that is possible. :) Like last summer I met her on Laugavegur in Reykjavík and we had a heat wave at that time and she was wearing a "kraftgalla", it's a warm over-all made from sheeps wool and a wool hat, the clothes farmers wear in mid winter. She is very wierd.

Sigur Rós are more 'down to earth' kind of people but it allways looks like they are 'high' or something. But they are good fun and very nice but also kind of "special" people. Can't find a good word for them. But they are not like Björk. :)

The Greenlanders are about 65.000 and they have no military or Coast Gaurd.
If we Icelanders ever go to war with Greenland the war would be over by the time the first Icelander steps on their soil.
No contest, Iceland would win.

Slátur
Blóðmör

I decided to look up the names of foods you posted that are consumed in your country..out of curiosity and extreme boredom, and I'd eat most of what you wrote except for the svid, slatur and also hrutspungar. But then again I've had hotdogs b4 which probably contain these.

As for the others,I've had shark numerous times when I was in Australia(not rotten though!),blood suasage if blodmor is the same and lamb.I'd definitely enjoy the seafood since I don't eat meat anymore, and I'm more than willing to tackle the brennivin. The only drink I couldn't handle(not even sober) so far was straight Tequilla. Enuff babbling from me.

Peace form Canada Junior

Wow, this thread has gotten way off topic but okay.
If you cant handle Twquilla straight you have no chance with Brennivín, really.
All the foods I posted are handled in an Icelandic way and their is nothing like it outside of the country but some things are similar in content.
I met last summer an American who wanted to taste the food and said he had tasted Scottish Haggis and blood suasage and all that and then he tasted all of the things I posted above and he did not handle it well to say the least.

Haggis and blood sausage are very mild, and that's even without comparing it to stuff like rotted shark! Are you the guys that eat baked puffins, or have I got you confused with someone else up north?
