So love isn't all it's cracked out to be. Sure, it would be nice to love someone, but I would be held back. I don't want to be held back and I want to reach my full potential.

Cleo didn't love Marcus Antonius, he was the better option of the two men. He was a proven general, had the riches of the East, and was basically Caesar's son. He was his right hand man, whereas Octavian, the adopted son and blood nephew, was unproven, often ill and failed at the last big battle.

Mantodea is indeed a pretty cool order. However, the mantids are not a particularly affectionate type of insect. The female praying mantis quite literally rips the male's head off during copulation.

As other select primates, we are a primarily monogamous species.

Nah not this year... i kinda like two guys but theyr such good friends i wouldn't dare wreck things with them (and there's two so that complicates things...) by commenting on liking them... the scary thing is i think that they like me and i'm scared one of them atleast is gonna say something on St V day and i won't know what to say back... :(

"Sure." I don't want to tell you what to do at all, but that's my opinion from the information given. Don't worry too much about losing friendship, especially since a large majority of males will just give up if they realise they can not get with a girl. Most guys aren't into platonic relationships. It could augment your relationship so much, and give you so much more.

But who am I to lecture? I haven't even gone out on my first date yet. Though, to be honest, I find it difficult to wait for the 19th! ;)

In the Human world, if you go off and have sex with another partner you are banished from the community, or at least shunned. In the animal kingdom(which we belonged to, until we grew superior), that's perfectly normal. Biologically, all we have to do is impregnate women and protect the children. Of course, our minds tell us differently.

I've had crushes on three guys...one is currently in Scotland, another is now in California and the third...who I have to admit I haven't met face-face yet...is in Montreal.

I don't think I even need to tell you what the black widow spider does (only the most common example due to their lethal neurotoxin). What about birds that have excessive amounts of plumage? Take birds of paradise and peacocks for instance. Those make them easier targets for predators and require huge amounts of energy to produce that much.

Biologically, all we have to do is attract the best mate we can so that we can pair our own DNA up with the best possible, more likley to continue that DNA further down the line. So there is competition for the desirable females.

Also, you bring up some sociological concepts, such as ostricism of polyamorists. Not at all characteristic of Homo sapiens sapiens, only a peculiarity of a certain society. No offence intended, but you are getting into areas of biology and sociobiology that you probably aren't educated enough in htose areas to talk about.

And, finally, never say that humans are above animals in front of me. That pisses me off more than you can imagine. We are still in the animal kingdom, whether we like it or not. We are still in domain Eukaryota, kingdom Animalia, phylum Chordata, class Mammalia, order Primates, family Hominidae, genus Homo, species sapiens, subspecies sapiens.

Seeing as motion pictures are far more modern than 30-year generational humans can possibly deal with, I'd say you're right about this. However, trying to attract a mate is indeed natural, and this is just the contemporary equivalent.

Well, we're still bound by Nature, though I see your point indeed. However, ants are the most populous animal on the planet. They invented agriculture millenia before humans even arose. They also have a form of pheromonal language that is even more ancient. Termites, another eusocial insect, have the greatest biomass of any animal. Us, in our anthropocentric world, give ourselves a sense of grandeur, that is partially justifiable, but not as much as we'd like to believe.

Well, it wouldn't be too different from what I am doing now. Currently I isolate myself in front of my computer most of my freetime, but not all of it. So the difference would just be about a few more hours of isolation each week. ;)

I might have to lower the amount of isolation in front of my computer in the future, however. And once that has happened, if I don't find any female that I can successfully live together with (and perhaps isolate myself with in front of two or more computers :D) without any compability problems within the next third of my lifetime, I estimate that I will go back to nearly full isolation and get nerdier than ever.

Well, not quite. "Queen" is such a misleading term in eusocial insects, as the queen is the insects with the least influence of all. They obviously work collectively, but how they do this is completely unknown.

Also, if you think ants can't do anything, I heavily recommend Empire of the Ants by Bernard Werber, a French entomologist who has studied ants for 15 years.
