I've noticed that a few chirstian sites still have hostility towards long hiared men, and was wondering why there would be a problem in today's "Let's sell induduality to the masses" society.

I would guess that if you are selling individuality to the masses, then you really aren't selling individuality so much as the idea of individuality, or being an individual within a group, but it's not stark individuality.

As a sidenote, stark individuality is waay too much trouble. I'm not going to be bothered to make a checklist to see that of the 6 billion others on the earth, none of them are doing what I'm doing. Seems like even more effort and affectation than just doing what suits you. But anyway...

I don't know what peoples deal with dudes with long hair is, accept that the 'deal' is part of why it's done. Long hair in itself has it's pluses. But-what's the point in having a mohawk if it isn't going to weird a few people out, or at least broadcast something about yourself. To a lesser extent, long hair is that as well.

They are insane. I am a Roman Catholic and the people here do not have a problem with me. I have long hair, not like a 'rock star' but more like the 'Beatles?',.

I started letting my hair grow because I never let it grow very long before, and after a few comments of looking like a 12-year-old boy at the age of 18 due to my last hair cut, I decided then was as good a time as any, and rather liked the results, so haven't cared to cut it since.

And, of course, the fact that after posting my pic on a message board I've been posting on for the last 3 years, a girl who I've greatly admired and respected on there started coming on to me because of it, and that soon lead to the very real possibility of the two of us getting married didn't hurt either...

I'd like to have long hair. But my hair grows big, not long. But I'm just going to let it grow because it'll be a fun experiment.

Long hair is sometimes unsanitary if not taken care of properly, and is not very practical overall. It doesn't show individuality, but rather subjecting to a sterotype of individuality. An person is by definition an individual, as the words can be interchanged in a sentence: An individual is an individual. So just be yourself and you don't need long hair.

That's funny, since Jesus is usually depicted with long hair. Not too long ago, the "longhairs" were a group of admired intellectuals. This is why our founding fathers and the like wore long-haired wigs.

Hair

by Trilha Sonora
She asks me why
I'm just a hairy guy
I'm hairy noon and night
Hair that's a fright
I'm hairy high and low
Don't ask me why
Don't know
It's not for lack of break
Like the Grateful Dad
Darling

Gimme head with hair
Long beautiful hair
Shining, gleaming,
Streaming, flaxen, waxen

Give me down to there hair
Shoulder length or longer
Here baby, there mama
Everywhere daddy daddy

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair

Let it fly in the breeze
And get caught in the trees
Give a home to the fleas in my hair
A home for fleas
A hive for bees
A nest for birds
There ain't no words
For the beauty, the splendor, the wonder
Of my...

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair

I want it long, straight, curly, fuzzy
Snaggy, shaggy, ratty, matty
Oily, greasy, fleecy
Shining, gleaming, streaming
Flaxen, waxen
Knotted, polka-dotted
Twisted, beaded, braided
Powdered, flowered, and confettied
Bangled, tangled, spangled, and spaghettied!

Oh say can you see
My eyes if you can
Then my hair's too short

Down to here
Down to there
Down to where
It stops by itself

They'll be ga ga at the go go
When they see me in my toga
My toga made of blond
Brilliantined
Biblical hair

My hair like Jesus wore it
Hallelujah I adore it
Hallelujah Mary loved her son
Why don't my mother love me?

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair
My hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair

I don't care to have long hair, and I don't see why girls like it on guys so much. It's not really fair.

Hmm.... though if I had long enough hair, I could hang myself with it. That would be a cool way to go.

Umm, I'm a college student, so i didn't have the cash for a haircut, and the fact thatI was entirely too lazy probably didn't help either. result? i haven't gotten it cut in about 7 months, an the gf loves it, so I guess it stays. Most women i know dig long hair. :D

I like medium length hair on a guy, like the way Johnny Depp often has his. I don't like really long hair, but it's completely up to the individual. If a guy wants hair down to his ass, i really don't care.

It's been almost 4 years for me, last hair cut was in April of 2001, but it's only like half way down my back... And yeah, a lot of girls seem to dig it.

I'm also Roman Catholic (or at least I was raised in such family), and I understand that Catholicism is always criticized for not being overbaringly conservative over the dumber things stated in the bible. I've never heard anyone make a big deal over long hair either. With all those stupid paintings of an extremely white or extremely black Jesus with very long, flowing hair, you wouldn't think it'd be a big deal anyway.

Personally, I don't like keeping long hair. Mine is medium-lengthed, still nice looking and much easier to manage. ;)

The length of hair shouldn't really matter... Its just a preference... on men I prefer shorter hair, only because long hair takes a bit of effort to take care of and most don't seem to be bothered with caring for their hair. Geez, a haircut costs AUD$10, or free if your mother can do it for you, so I don't think its too much hassle to get it cut comparing with daily long hair care.

(in case nobody figured it out, i'm female, and my hair is almost waist length)

Long hair is cool because every rock star since the Beatles has grown their hair long as a way of rebelling against somebody. Or maybe because they did drugs and had no time to cut their hair. Whatever.

Note that I strive to become a member of a rock band where all the members have reasonably short hair, as a way of rebelling against that stereotype. For God's sake, why does rock have to be about rebellion? Can't it just be about music?

Back to topic, hair shouldn't get in the way. If you're taking 2 hours to wash your hair, or if it's getting in your eyes, you have a problem. My opinion anyway.

another longhair here... been growing it for a few years (3 maybe...) & its well past shoulders & neck, a litte down me back :) keep it in good condition too. problem is its really really fuckin curly, so if it were straight it'd be waaay longer :(

grown it mainly because i want to emulate my favourite musicians (tbh ;) ), look like a hippie/metalhead, and cos i think most modern blokes haircuts look shite

I heard a rumour that Kim Jong-Il passed a law prohibiting any body talking about the fact that he's going bald. How awesome is that? Why go for some amazing cure when you can just make it the law that everyone has to pretend it's not happening?

In my own opinion, the women should have the long hair, men should have short hair. I mean, sure the men in the bible had long hair, but they didn't have barbers back then and besides that, men don't look much like men with hair like a woman. See what I'm saying? I hope you do, with no offense if you do have long hair as a man. I'm just used to the guys I know having short hair, my boyfriend's got super-short hair and my grandpa never let my dad and his brothers get long hair.

Some of them also have issues when it comes to short haired women.

I wonder if they realise how much easier short hair is to maintain as opposed to long hair?

You know what I say?

Fuck gender roles.

If a man wants long hair then good for him, let it grow. If a woman wants short hair, good for her. Usually short hair goes well on women anyways, it frames the face much better than long hair.

besides that, men don't look much like men with hair like a woman.
Anthony Kiedis looked like a woman when his hair was long?
The Ramones looked like girls?
These guys look like girls? (http://texaspunkjunk4.homestead.com/motor2.html)

I don't think so. Men don't tend to look like women with long hair. It can be difficult from behind perhaps, but really, no. Men still look like men, hair past their shoulders or not.

Well personaly, it seems to me that an extra minute of combing and a little more shampoo isn't that much work when compared to guys who spike or style their hair everyday. And I've found that a nice wipe of the head gets hair out of your sight and looks pretty cool too.

I had hair down to my hips. It took the same amount of time to wash... it just took more shampoo.

Also, really long hair doesn't get in your eyes, it can be pulled out of them. It's the hair that's too short to tuck behind the ears that's the problem.

Yeah. Last year a "friend" of mine offered to give me a time on St.Patty's day... I wound up looking like Mongo and only now can put it behind my ears. Word of the wise people, if you are reconsidering having long hair sit on the idea for a few weeks to make sure that it is a good thing for you or not.

I used to have long hair that went down past my shoulders... and alot thurther when it was wet cause it was all curley and stuff. One day I just decided to get rid of it and shaved it all off.... execpt for about 1.5mm. It felt pretty damn good (having the new short hair) but every one kept touching it and stuff. But I have to admit it did feel pretty good to rub my head =)

My thoughts on long hair?

I had it. It took longer to dry. It left. I don't really miss it...

Mind you, in the 80's you HAD to have long hair. It was a rule. Your only choice was mullet, or non-mullet.....

I love long hair, and have it (not that long, but I had to cut it for a job awhile back..). I also prefer it on others in many cases, but sometimes the short hair looks better. Its all about individual style.

On that, I don't grow it to be a 'rebel' or anything. I just have a LOT of thick hair, and I like to make full use of it by encouraging my female company to run their hands through it... mnnn... lady fingers...

Oh, and a side-benefit: If you have long hair, a clever person can tell how up your hygeine is, which can win you some points if you do, in fact, keep it up.

But vanity is fairly harmless, as long a you don't taunt others (read: me) for looking like crap. In closing, do what the hell you like.

What? Isn't there some obscure part of the Bible that says men may not cut their hair? Anyway, as for long hair, I have it.
