Wonder if anybody can answer this question

if you add together the GDPs of all EU countries (ie to make a single EU GDP) and compared it with the USAs GDP, which would be bigger?

I believe that the EU is now slightly larger than the US.

Or if not yet, it is projected to be larger in the next few years.

I'm not sure, but I think the EU would have a bigger economy.

U.S. $10.99 trillion
E.U. $11.05 trillion

So, the EU's a little bigger. Not by much, though.

There are about a hundred million more EU member folks anyways, so that would make sense...

Last I checked, the US comprised about 25% of the world economy and the EU about 29%.

Of course if you add them all together, you get France and Germany bossing everyone around like the obnoxious kid on the playground in first grade. Then you get England taking her marbles and going home, Poland pouting about not being included, everybody making fun of Italy over the whole Roman Catholic thing, somebody tosses out a snide joke about the Spanish Inquisition, and the rest of the delegates duck outside and take the train down to the Riviera to check out the naked girls. By the time anyone realizes nothing is getting done, it is lunch time, and they call it quits for the day. That's Europe though.

Glad the system is still working! It's been a while since I checked!!!

The CIA world factbook has a listing for the EU and for the World as well as one for each country.

One interesting stat was the population of the EU 450 million and consumes 14.48 million barrels per day. Whereas the US has a population of 290 million and consumes 19.65 million barrels per day. Interesting.

Anyway, of course the US is going to have a better economy than the EU per capita. I hear some americans work 60-70 hours per week O_O. Ah, blessed be the 35-hour-week in France. Actually a maxium of 35 working hours per week is ludicrously low. x_x

Of course this has to be put in perspective. Most EU nations have as a result of their fairly geographically small size, extensive mass transit systems. Which helps them minimize the use of gasoline. Meanwhile, in the US we have an incredibly spread out country, and mass transit just isn't nearly as efficient.

35 hour max? Damn, that's low that's awfully close to a part time job in the US...And very few people actually work the 60-70 hour work week, most stay between 40-50...

I assume you're talking about barrels of oil?

That's probably because almost everyone in America has a car, and we have a much larger military, so naturally we're going to consume more.

The UK is bitching about having to introduce a 40-hour week as the NHS would collapse if all it's slaves, uh, I mean Junior Doctors were only allowed to work for 40 hours.

35 hour rule is not a mandatory law in France. It was designed to increase employment by forcing businesses to hire more people, but only government employees stick to it.
