In the paper today it was reported that, according to a Human rights organisation based in the US (the World Organisation for Human Rights USA), at least 37 prisoners have been tortured to death or died during interogations in the 'detention facilities' in Afghanistan, Cuba or Iraq.
It also mentioned that the US is trying to sidestep the issue of torture by sending suspects to countries where they can use harsher interrogation techniques that is not permitted in America. At least 200 suspects have been sent to other countries, such as Syria.

Doesn't surprise me at all - I just don't see how people can describe the US's policy as humane and working against tyranny when such practices are widespread.

Just an indication of what governments anywhere, given the power will try and do.

As an aside, Martin Mubanga's rap lyrics suck. I mean, they really truly suck.

But yeah, I find it appalling that the US first weaseled their way out of giving these people even basic legal rights by calling them 'unlawful combatants' and is now trying to do the same from being accused of torture by sending them to other countries whose military will the US's dirty work for them.
Just so ppl in the Bush admin can stand up and say that the US is not directly involved in any torture of suspects.
Indeed, in the article a Department of Defence spokesman said "The US treats all detainees with dignity and respect". But notice he didn't counter the claims that they were being tortured in other countries at the behest of the US.

There should be a special deal with the Americans- if those people are "illegal combatants" and can be tortured, then CIA and other US government officials can also be legally tortured as "illegal combatants".
