Noam Chomsky
This GOD needs a thread, admittedly.
However, let's discuss everything "Noam", including his turn toward the libertarian.

I still think Skinner was right about how we learn language. Mostly because I can't wrap my head around this "deep structure" grammar business. If anyone could explain chom's theory, I'd be much obliged.

Noam is awesome, and while he might be becoming more libertarian, he's still a leftist.

alot of quasi anarchists describe themselves as libertarian socialists, especially evolutionary(as opposed to revolutionary) anarchists and those who feel that the state can not be abolished so much as minimized or ignored as much as possible.

Noam Chomsky is possibly one of the greatest left wing intellect alive. No forget that, he is the greatest left wing intellect alive. His books and writings are amazing. And he sent me an e-mail.

No, his books are dry, dull and boring. I agree with some of his ideas and observations, but not by any means all of them.

yeah but if he was in a steel cage death match with Guy Ernest Debord(and guy wasn't dead) who would win, and would it be political theater.

Agreed. Although he probably spins things in ways that I'm not aware of.

I'd like to see a tag-team deathmatch between Michael Moore & Noam Chomsky versus Rush Limbaugh & Anne Coulter.

Wikipedia has a pretty decent go at explaining it:

In my own personal opinion Noam Chomsky is the smartest man alive! He gets it, he reads between the lines and I often find myself hard pressed to disagree with him, even if it's not what I wanted to hear.

To mention Noam Chomsky in the same breath as Michael Moore is an insult to Chomsky. Moore is entertainment, don't forget that, Chomsky is a brilliant socio-political analyst. And his recent turn towards libertarianism? He's been a libertarian socialist for a long, long time, this isn't a recent change.

For some reason, I get the impression that Chomsky has too much integrity to ever allow himself to team up with the likes of Moore.. If not, people's exalted opinions of him are obviously extremely overrated...
