Our President just has a warped vision of how the world works, that's all.

Cmon you should know this answer. It's obvious just propaganda speak to incite patriotic feelings and support. Whenever you say "freedom" or "liberty" people get all riled up and giddy. I think John Stewart had a counter on how many times bushie said freedom or liberty in his inaguration speech. quite a lot.

The "official" position? By helping to build a democracy in the center of the Middle East, the US applies pressure on other Middle Eastern countries to democratize their own nations, thus making the Middle East less volitile, thus making the US more safe.

It also doesn't hurt the US to have a democracy in the Middle East which is friendly and will permit ( probably limited ) use of bases within striking distance of Syria, Iran, Sudan, et. al.

I believe it was 15 to 27, respectively, if I recall correctly.

I don't really think Kuwait, Jordan or Saudi Arabia give a damn if Iraq is democratic. This is assuming it even ends up as a real democracy, instead of another strongman propped up by the US. Not like we haven't before. And if it is a real democracy, what makes you think it will be friendly to the US, much less friendly enough to let us put bases there?

Come on, dude!

You can't expect good ol' Johnny Hick to drive an alternative fuel car to the NASCAR racetrack, McDonalds, Walmart or wherever the f-ck else he's going.

By "liberating" the Iraqis, Johhny can drive his SUV around and the huge corporation (Which is probably subsidized by the government) he works for can get lucrative contracts worth billions of dollars. And everone knows that when major corporations are happy, all of us are happy.

It could say it doesn't, and furthermore it is only a means for which to further American Imperialism. But I won't.

Eutrusca, I didn't mean to come off sounding so snippy. I've already warned people once today I'm suffering from some major PMS. Bipolar + PMS = bad news. Plus I'm just a bitch anyway. :p

C'mon, Blarg...you know well. As you have doubtlessly noticed, most terrorist crazies have been trying to get their 72 virgins in Iraq. Would you rather we kill them there, or hunt them down here in the USA? Every terrorist that goes to meet Allah in Iraq is one less terrorist that can stage another 9/11 here.

oh I forgot. Getting people to kill Americans in other nations is much better.
