Justifies Sex Ed: A sixteen-year old SHOULD HAVE SOME IDEA what his parents were doing.

Justifies Gun Control: Can't even trust you own family. Violence solves nothing. Yadda Yadda.

This is so messed up its funny as Hell.

I will admit the previous abuse was a factor...but shouldn't that mean that a gun should be in the house of a man known to be violent in the first place?

No. You have it backwards. It justifies sex control and gun education.

The father had been convicted of prior charges of domestic abuse. I think that pretty much explains it.

EDIT: Footnote ... in North Carolina, a prior felony conviction elminates any possibility of buying a weapon from legitimate sources.

Perhaps it justifies controlling sex education with guns?

Isnt't that rather serious overkill? I mean, using a "moisture-seeking meat-missle" to attack your sex-ed teacher??? :D

And I admit that had a role in why he was shot. Still, the kid should have known the difference by his age and the presence of a gun in such a household is scary.

What does it say about possession of a gun in NC for a man with a prior felony conviction? It would eliminate him buying a legal gun but what about if he owned it before his arrest? I would assume it would be removed. I also wonder if he will be charged with possession of a weapon since he had a violent criminal record.

The whole scenario was a bizarre recipe for disaster any way you look at it. I don't feel pity for the guy who got shot.

Nah. The were married so they can shag all they want and the kid apparently knew how to operate a gun quite well :p

Official: Son Mistakes Parents' Sex For Domestic Abuse
Boy, 16, Charged With Assault With Deadly Weapon

POSTED: 6:50 am CST February 11, 2005
UPDATED: 3:20 pm CST February 11, 2005

HOUSTON -- A 16-year-old boy was charged with shooting his father in their southwest Harris County home Friday, Local 2 reported. The shooting was originally reported as a case of domestic abuse, but deputies said the boy apparently witnessed a sexual act between his parents and thought the father was abusing the mother.

Sheriff's deputies charged the boy with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a first-degree felony.

Detectives told Local 2 the mother and father were engaged in consensual sex when the shooting occurred at about 3:30 a.m. inside the family's home on Mira Monte near Corta.

Investigators said the couple's 11-year-old son woke up to his mother making loud noises.

"During the course of love making, the wife was evidently being somewhat loud … loud enough to where it woke the children up," Harris County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Mike Smith told Local 2.

The boy woke his brother, who then walked into his parent's bedroom and told his father, 43-year-old Jacob Hughes, to leave his mother alone.

Officials said that is when the teen shot his father in the arm.

Detectives originally told Local 2 that the son said he fired the gun as a way of defending his mother during an argument he thought she was having with his father.

"The children interpreted the noise as their mother being in danger," Smith said. "The 11-year-old went into the room, forcibly went into the room, to protect his mother. (The child) observed his parents making love and got the 16-year-old. The 16-year-old came back in and fired the shot."

After investigating previous problems at the home, officials said there have been previous reports of abuse in the family and that father had been charged and convicted of domestic violence.

Officials said the children feared their mother was being hurt due to their father's previous convictions for abuse and that is the reason the oldest son shot his father.

Authorities said they have not determined whether the mother was screaming for help.

"That is a very important question. I can see why you are asking that. We are trying to work that out right now. We are trying to decide if it was a passionate scream or was it a cry for help," Smith said.

Hughes was transported to a hospital to be treated for his injuries. He was released late Friday morning.

Officials said the couple has been married for 20 years.

Okie ... it's bad enough that the toddler always seems to walk in at 2 am when the wife and I are trying to be intimate ... I can't even imagine a teenager of mine shooting me for it.

Crazy damn kids ... let your parents have sex! What the fuck is wrong with you?!

Blame the schools for not teaching sex ed, rather than blaming the parents for not giving the basics. Sex shouldn't be censored from schools, but really, sex ed is total bs a good majority of the time... concentrating on scaring kids rather than teaching. Human biology would serve a better objective alternative than sex ed classes.

I once postulated that it is impossible to be dense enough to vote for Dubya and still be a mostly moral person. The most favorable balance that seemed possible was Jessica Simpson who can't tell if tunafish is a fish or a bird and thinks that Buffalo wings are made with buffalo meat... from the wing of a buffalo. Even being that stupid she still needs that low grade nastiness that lets her take joy in other people being too poor to afford her fancy clothes and bags. That mind boggling level of stupidity may still not actually drive one to vote for Bush with only good intentions.

I was certain that the density required, to be the sole reason for a Bush vote, would cause the individual to collapse surrounding space, removing them from the universe. It seems that I was only wrong by degrees, and that Texas is slowly being drawn into a parrallel universe where people get murdered with sherry enemas, naked burglars are only trying to steal bed space, and Grand Theft Auto is not only legal, but legally mandated!

Everytime I look at your post I laugh so hard I cry. As a native Texan I am well aware of the wildly ridiculous nature of my home state. Nevertheless, you have an art to pointing out the obvious in new and perverse ways.

I think the most important question, that strangely enough has yet to be asked, is why did a 16-year-old have such easy access to a gun in the first place?
