I guess it would have to be.... Hmm.... tough question!

While Santa Clause Couquers the Martians does hold a place in my heart, I guess I'd have to say it would be:

The Exorcist
(what can I say -- good music, true to the book, nicely frightening!)

Wow, you're asking a lot! Single out one of them?...

I'll say it's a tie between Clockwork Orange and possibly Fight Club.
The best movie I've seen recently was The Incredibles (http://www.lp.org/lpnews/0501/review.html).

I hate movies which have nothing but violence after violence in them and/or lack a good storyline. I'm not much into fantasy movies either. The LOTR films were good, but not really my thing and I doubt I'll ever watch them again.

Movies based on historical people/events are great... but I didn't really think much of Troy and Alexander. Meh, I guess loads of battle scenes just aren't my thing...

It doesn't put a foot wrong. particularly the soundtrack. The choral theme in Tetsuo (you know the one) always gets the hairs on the back of my head.

I dunno.... I don't get it, but I'm not... not getting it, like 2001.
and the red motorcycle is quite fantastic. Sound I remember better than pictures, though, which is why when I think Akira, I think of the soundtrack. Take LOTR for example. Thousands of perfect tableaus, and I remember more than that is how cool the nazgul sounded, and the elven horns... strange thing.

Hannibal.
Very well made - scary but not cheap horror with too many bums and boobs.

I loved the start of The Village, but the ending was just plain stupid if you ask me.

Dead Poets' Society is one of the best films ever made, I cried my heart out when the students stood on their desks at the very end. Sob Sob

Yes, the ending kind of left a lot of things unfinished...but, at least it was done according to the guy who wrote the comic. BTW, Otomo has just put out a new movie, called "Steamboy"...let me find the link for the site and I'll come back and edit it in.

Can't go wrong with either Robin Williams or Sir Anthony Hopkins in a serious or dramatic role.

Shawshank is good.
American Graffiti is too.
So is the Green Mile.
So is the Exorcist.
and 2001:SO.

But the best movie of all time is obviously Fahrenheit 911. Its insights into philosophy and the deception and blatant ignorance of Mr. Bush. are some of the rare grains of truth you will find in the world. Before, I didn't know what to think about politics, but after watching this movie there is no doubt that it is great and Bush is evil. Michael Moore is great man. :p  ;)

3) After Life - only because of the premise of the movie...when you die, you are sent to a sort of wainting area or purgatory. there you must decided what memory was greatest for you out of your entire life. the ppl that work in this waiting area will attempt to re-create at it as best then can. apon creation, it is filmed with you and then shown to you. after the moment is over, you have vanished, forced to relive the moment over and over again for the rest of eternity but with the moment being as brand new to you as the first time. which makes you think: if i were to die today, what moment in my life would i want to remember forever ?

2)Fear and Loating in Las Vegas - visually disturbing at times, funny at others. excellent portrayal of the spiral downward through excess and ones own ego.

(drumroll please)

1) Natural Born Killers - what can i say? I love the exaggerated violence of the movie as well as the media's portrayal of our anti-hereos Mickey and Malory. The way it is shot with film and animation. The music video style cuts that plague the movie. The symbolism. The cast. I mean, how many times have you seen a movie with Rodney Dangerfield (RIP) acting as a complete animal and applaude when he dies ? Finally, the soundtrack. An often overlooked part of a movie, the music is as much a character as any person shown here. Overall, I guess I am saying that no matter how many times I watch it, it could never fade with time and will always be fresh and new to me.

Hats off to all the Monty Python, Lynch, Kirasawa, Coen Bros., Kubrick, Fellini & Bergman fans..."whewhhh!" Plus more...but what I'm going to throw in as one of the most WRONG yet well done films: "Forbidden Zone" by Elfman. Don't confuse this with a readily available soft porn movie of the same name. The Forbidden Zone stars the midget Herve Villechaize..."Da plane, Da plane."
This movie is way "wrong", but if watched more than once...ranks high on the truly & accomplished WEIRD scale. Find it...

This is one of the hardest things i've had to do. I don't have one favourite film really, as it depends what I want to watch, so for comedy it has to be shrek 2 or the incredibles, and the same for animation. action, it's gotta be The One with Jet Li, musical - mary poppins or an american in paris and just to cap it off Dirty Dancing for a good girly night in.

Oh, oooh, argh this is too hard!
Well, Phantom of the Opera, the recent film adaptation, does spring to mind, but primarily because the soundtrack is so goddamned brilliant. And Gerrard Butler plays a superb Phantom and Emmy Rossum has an extraordinary singing voice.
The Lord of the Rings films were great of course, and First Contact and Return of the Jedi are the best films in their own franchises.
Oh yes, and the unforgettable Pirates of the Carribean. A really fun film, but dragged out of the classics list by one man- Orlando Bloom. His horiddly flat performance stuck out nastily throughout, like a reverse Truman show. He was acting and everybody else was real.
Yes, I like Sound of Music as well, shut up.
Oh yeah, and Akira? Is that really so popular? I just saw it around a mate's house and found it to be very fun, but with a plot which solely served to tie together fun explodey scenes, although it contains much more depth than some rubbish.
