ATLANTA -- A Georgia judge ordered a mother of seven who pleaded guilty to killing her 5-week-old daughter to have a medical procedure to prevent her from having more children.

Carisa Ashe was charged with murder and faced life in prison if convicted. After two days of trial, Ashe, 34, admitted to voluntary manslaughter.

As a condition of her sentence, she has 90 days to get a tubal ligation or prosecutors can reinstate the murder charge, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Rowland Barnes said in an order issued Tuesday.

I heard on a TV news report that her 7 children had 7 fathers, and none of them were involved with their kids.

Is this a fair sentence? Is she getting off too easy for killing her baby? Should the courts be able to force sterilization? Should she receive a light sentence and/or psychiatric help?

That said "as a condition for he sentence". Is that the only condition?
If so, that's insane.
I don't think she should be around children, if they somehow don't stick her in prison.

she should be sent to prison and they should sign her kids over to the military to be made into super soldiers

In order! No! yes! Yes! No and yes!

It was not a fair sentence because she did commit murder. She is getting off to easily because what she did was child abuse and murder. Yes the courts should. Seven children by seven fathers? What a slut. She doesn't deserve to breed anymore. It was a light sentence and she should receive psychiatric help.

Bloody hell. Doesn't she know how to prevent having them?

I agree that she isn't receiving a fair sentence. A child is dead...killing a child has to be the worst crime of all. Instead she will receive a medical procedure, paid for with tax money, that will allow her to continue to be promiscuous without consequences. Except one...the same unprotected sex that gets you pregnant, also gets you STD.

I do have a problem with the judges handing down moral and social judgements. But, how would they protect any other children she might have in the future?

Yep. Can't argue there. There is much better use of my tax money than this. National Defense for instence :)

I have no earthly Idea.
