hey guys into classic cars? if so mabye you could help me. I'm starting to think about getting my first car and I got my heart set on an old 1960's convertible chevrolet. And I was wanting to get an old chassis (for cheap) and build it myself (for cheap) I've been searching for a while on the internet and in the newspapers but I cant seem to find what im looking for. Is there anyone out there who could give me a hand or point me in the right direction? .............. please?

also as a side note If anyone thinks I'm a bored teenager who just wants something to wow girls in then give me a break this is serious stuff!

What type of car exactly are you looking for? 'A' body? 'F' Body? My first was a '67 no post Chevelle, and I loved it death - I'd give my promotion to that type of full bodied car, unless you can afford a 'vette!

Are you close to any farms? Farmers quansits seem to be like gold mines when it comes to old cars!

The best advice though, take your time and make sure you're happy with what you buy! Thats of crucial importance!

I second LM's advice, and would suggest that you spend some time rummaging around junkyards.

It seems that you are wanting to do things inexpensive, and building a car from the ground up usually isn't the cheapest way to do it, unless you are using a matching numbers car. What I would suggest doing instead is finding a car that has a good base, rust free, and a decent paint job, driveable. Than you can upgrade as money permits, and have something to drive in the meantime. Of course, this doesn't consider the pride/want/desire to build something from the ground up.

As a Ford guy I know jack about Chevys, but my dad and I found a 66' mustang for bout 9g as described above, redid the engine on it, spent a bit of money doing up the interior, and now have a pretty decent classic

Pre 1972 Chevelles (OPEC embargo ruined true muscle cars after this date) in general are sooooo HOT! *drools* ;)

"Cheap & 60's Corvettes" do not co-exist in today's hot car market. If you have your heart set on a '60 Corvette, be prepaired to pay for it. In addition, Corvettes are speciallized. Since they have fiberglass bodies, they are harder to work on and more expensive than normal to paint. Unless you know what you're doing, they are not for the new 'do it yourselferrr'.

If you want an affordable Vette, then it's the '74 -'87 model you want. The earlier they are, the easier they will be to work on since they were carburated.

Set your budget, then go from there.

My dad used to always have a Classic car in addition to his regular cars.......we had a SWEET '70 super sport chevelle, red with the black stripes running down the hood. It would haul ass. Also a '68 Metallic blue Rally Sport Camaro with the black stripes as well. What else.....'71 Stingray convetible Corvette....candy apple red with white leather interior....hydraulic clutch. The front tires would raise off the ground when you put it in 2nd gear. *siiiighh*

We'd always go to those Classic car shows. Being my dad owned two auto sale places....I grew up around cars. I can do a tune up, change the oil and some simple brake work. Not bad for a girl ay?

I got caught racing that Chevelle when I was 16 and was banned from driving the classics ever again. I won though. ;)
