In tha past ages, women were considered property, wealth: By instituting monogamy, western societies basically made a re-distributive law, that also brought a sort of minimum wage for all men: Each man, independently of anything, had the right for one woman. And rich men, despite being able to sustain more than one woman, were forced to "give away" women to the poorer man, by not marrying more than one woman! :D :D :D :D

Not in Ancient Egypt, dude. In Ancient Egypt, women owned property, had equal political rights, and the famous Cleopatra even ruled the land for a time. Not only that, several deities were female, including my favorite-Bastet (or just Bast), the Cat Goddess.

yeah but egypt's not really in the 'western world'. It's not the only society were women were equal to men in history either (before the last 100 years) ;)
