Would you ever get a completely elective surgery? Do you hate the idea of cosmetic surgery? Do you give a shit?

I happen to be very happy with the way I look, especially considering what age I am!

I suspect that one reason few are indicating they would like elective plastic surgery is because of the way you phrased the first poll option, and because your survey reveals who voted for what. People can be very wary of letting anyone know they think they're ugly.

I might want to get my boobs perked up in a few years. I'm pretty busty and they tend to be effected by gravity more quickly when your well endowed. I had braces when I was younger and have contacts now, and those are both artificial means to improving your looks. If it makes you happy, why not?

Cosmetic surgery is certainly not for me... But I wouldnt be so self righteous as to condemn it in all cases. Sometimes it's a good thing, in the case of reconstructive sugery for example. Sometimes it's a self esteem issue that someone needs to work out; whatever makes them happy, right? Sometimes it's just plain pointless.

...It's times like those you end up with Michael Jackson. ick.

I had a wisdom tooth out that wasn't impacted, so I answered yes.

I wouldn't have elective surgery because i am happy with the way i look. Besides, i really don't like the idea of going under the knife so unless it was a life or death situation, for me or someone else, i wouldn't. I am not against it for other people though. We should be able to do what we want when it comes to stuff like that.

I would totally go for elective surgery, I would have all my scars removed and my teeth fixed if I could afford it. My teeth are tiny, they're about the size of children's first set of teeth and I find it difficult to eat some foods that require chewing (especialy meat).

does extensive tattooing count as elective surgery? :D

actually, i got breast implants at a mere 16 years old. they were big, hard, and changed my life. i had them removed at age 19. best decision i ever made.

I've considered getting liposuction before, under the notion that it would be easier to maintain already being thin than working to get there, but the risks were too damned high.

Aside from my gut, my appearance is very slightly better than average (All the girls who go for me seem to be about half my weight, sexy and intelligent, so I can't be that ugly), so I have no reason to even consider it.

I have no issue with anyone giving themselves surgery if they truly wish it, or have something seriously wrong (Burn scars or something) they wish to deal with.

However, I consider non-corrective surgeries to be a good reason not to get in bed with someone. Fake breasts creep me out (B-Cups are fine with me, anyways). Injecting stuff in your face creeps me out. I also have issues with makeup. Anyone trying that hard to hide their genetics suggests they have -bad- genetics, so I'm simply not going to want to risk my genes mixing with theirs. My DNA has standards.

Although going under the knife doesn't make you a better or a worse person morally, well not to me.

Some like plastic surgery were actually invented to restore people's faces that have been horribly damaged during wars. But if it helps in your daily life, go ahead.

Although I would prefer pure beauty, but society has made it such, that if your face isn't by standards of whats called 'beautiful' and you'll be an outcast, sad but true. But if it improves your self at your workplace and better with the men/women. Go for it.

But I can't stand some of those crazy ladies who keep on doing it until they look strange.

I don't care for cosmetic surgery for vanity reasons, but there are other reasons for 'elective' surgery. Technically elective means anything that is done by choice and not for health reasons. Fixing a cleft palate or carpal tunnel surgery can be deemed elective, but I understand and support those choices. I don't support liposuction, face lifts or breast augumentation. I'm on the fence about stomach stapling.

I personally wouldn't consider cosmetic type surgery for myself, even to remove scars or to replace my missing toe.

When I get to the Afterlife I'll be asked to show my battlescars, I wouldn't want to be barred from entering. ;)

I'm against cosmetic surgery on "normal" looking people. In most of cases I would recommend a visit to a shrink or gym. I quess cosmetic surgery can be a good thing too if e.g. gigantic nose is such a big issue for someone. It's easy to say I'm against them as I'm happy with the way I look.

I could (would) consider having a cosmetic surgery if my look would change dramatically because of an accident or illness.

True, there is a huge difference between what the insurance companies say are elective and what the public thinks. I think there are a number of ‘elective’ surgeries that can increase the quality of a person’s life. Many insurance companies call them elective to defer the cost back to the citizen.

Anyway most of us probably agree that surgery to improve sexual features may be silly. It’s certain that a number of people have unhealthy or even emotionally ill desires to have surgery.

I'm against the idea of plastic surgery, other than for accident victims or those born with defects, such as harelip, etc.

That said, I have a habit of cutting out moles and such before they pose any cancer risk, but that's mainly because I enjoy it, not because it makes me look better. So maybe I'm a hypocrite here.

Nothing completely elective, I think. I mean, I understand women who get breast reduction surgery because their breasts are so large that they're having back problems, etc., but then that's not totally elective, is it?

One of the things I dislike most nowadays is Botox. You can always tell - it looks so fake! Someone in my family got it, and I asked another family member about it, and she said, "Shh, it's a secret." C'mon, who is she kidding?!?

And I'm not saying that I love wrinkles, but I kinda feel that by taking away your laugh lines and the life, you're erasing part of your history.
