Actually erweitern would have been the correct word at the end instead of ausdehnen.

I should have added 'loosely translated' since I didn't do word for word, just wrote the gist of what you said. It's been a long ten years since I studied German - I've lost a lot of it.

And no problemmo! :)

Heh. You need to learn how to make a ß. And learn when to post insults in an appropriate context.

I don't know how to do that with a bastardized American keyboard. It's not like I have an "ß" key (I copied/pasted the ß from your post). I agree with you on the insults though.

Google 'typing International Characters using the ALT key'. Whole lists of German, French, Danish etc characters available for use on any keyboard.

Edit: whoops. Went the wrong way with the size the first time. sorry.

Thanks, even though the Alt+NumPad stuff doesn't work with laptops...I had to mess with WinXP innards to change my keyboard settings. Eeeeeeeew. I just need to remember to use spaces after quotes and apostrophes now, unless I want random umlauts roaming my term papers now :p

That has a ß character, along with loads of other foreign characters etc.

I learn German in school - Ich lerne Deutsch in die Schule.
I think that's right.

I spend some time on yahoo.de occasionally, playing games and such, but I don't think I've seen an equivalent of "troll," or at least don't remember. I'll have to say something offensive next time. ;)

But it really is there. Troll as the fairy tale creature is originally from Finland and made its way through the whole of Scandinavia and the northwestern parts of Europe. Troll in the modern meaning got reimported from the US. ;)

The character mao gets really tedious when you're tryingto type in Finnish, or, God forbid, Icelandic. Icelandic is not fun to type in.

Which meaning of "troll"?

Troll (Norwegian myth creature) = Troll.

Troll (internet asshole) = no real 1-1 translation. I call them "Arschgesicht" (literally, butt face). Störenfried, Arschloch, Nervensäge....Leute, helft mir!!!

Wohl richtig. Ist mittlerweile eingedeutscht in der neuen Bedeutung.
Probably right, it has become a German word even in this new meaning.

Ich sage, dass es das deutsche Wort "Troll" schon gab bevor es in die englische Sprache übernommen wurde. :p
I say that the German word "troll" is older than the English word "troll". :p
