Prove To Me Why It Matters...

There are so many "Prove To Me That God Exisits", or "Prove God Doesn't Exist" threads, it's getting irritating.

Does it really matter? We are here. Either way, we have some how came about to be what we are now, whether it was through some great being eg God or through evolution. Does it matter? There is no way we can change this fact. And we will continue to go on. Our future might be decided by a God, it might not. We might carry on and over millions of years evolve and it have nothing to do with any God.

I personally, do not care if there is or is not a God. It doesn't make much difference. I'm not going to waste my life worshipping something that might not there, and I am certainly not going to waste all my time wondering about it.

It makes a difference if you die and end up either in hell, in heaven or reincarnated..
Not to mention the advantage of having a set of absolute moral laws. (Well, ok, God's existence doesn't necessarily imply they exist, but most people would assume so.)

Ok, but if there is a God, isn't this decided by him, and I don't have a choice in the matter? How can you know that these things exist though? It's very possible that when you die, you die, that's that. What's the point in death if you carry on living in some other place or body?

You and Jayastan. You spend your time noticing there are threads you deem stupid or pointless. And then you make equally stupid and pointless threads about them. Why not just admit that nothing matters, and all threads are equally stupid and pointless - why spend your time bashing people for not producing threads that you in particular like?

Ok, but if there is a God, isn't this decided by him, and I don't have a choice in the matter?Well, that's the next question. Most religion suppose that it does matter what you do, worship and that sort of thing. And if a few decades of groveling get's you eternal happiness post-life, well, maybe that's worth it.

How can you know that these things exist though?Well, that's where the so called proofs come in. But honestly, I don't think it can be proved. And every proof so far provides more evidence that it can't.

It's very possible that when you die, you die, that's that. What's the point in death if you carry on living in some other place or body?*shrugs* What's the point in death if you don't? Why should there be a point? Frankly, I don't know, and doubt very much anybody does. But it may be fun to philosophize about, perhaps even good.

First off, there is always the question of how everything came to exist in the first place. Right now, science provides a few theories, but for most of human history, the only explanation was that someone or something who had the power to create it.

Second, there is always the question of what happens to a person after death. Religion provides an excuse that at least provides comfort to them when they know their number is up.

Third, many people I know use religion as a personal support in their daily lives. Even if they are wrong about the existence of a god or where they're going when they die, they gain a peace of mind through the belief that, whatever happens, there is some being that watches out for their welfare.

Finally, even if you don't care, there are people who always wonder where we came from, where we're going, and what life means, beyond the obvious "propagate the species" urge. I always think about these sort of things, and so do my friends. We've spent hours debating those questions, and even if it doesn't mean a thing to how we live our lives day to day, we gain a feeling of comfort from having even the faintest idea of what life means.

Just my two cents.

i dont care either - makes no difference to me whether god exists or not - but i do enjoy a good debate (though most of these christain/anti-christian arguements are repetative and completely a matter of opinion, so they get old, fast.)
