It doesn't matter what it's for ... console, PC, Mac, whatever ...
When you buy a new game, what's the first thing you do?

Play ... I always finish a game normal before I go back and grab cheats (which depending on the game can be really cool mods and such)

Play it through to the end (even if it is like MDK2 which took me about a year) then play it through again after repeat playing other games in between.

as soon as i get impatient, i have to play it now... i play it for weeks until it gets old, then i mod the hell out of it, play it for a few more weeks then find a new (or re-find an old) game to play. repeat.
oh, and Keruvalia, you have the best location ever, ever.
althought now that i look at it pure metal, a cream quote comes into a second.

I'm awful when I've just bought a new game. It's not unusual for me to buy a game on Saturday, then spend twelve hours on it over the course of the weekend. It's a good thing I don't buy new games very often...

I play it into the ground if it catches my interest. Generally I don't even realize it, but my game clock tells me 8 hours before I put it down the first time. I can't tell you how many times I've been talking to a friend and saying, "Yeah, I played for a couple hours last night, it looks really good." Then go home to find that, no not 2 hours, but 10 had passed.
If its the only new game I've played in a while, I'll generally lose 1 night's sleep in its entirety getting to grips with it. I tend to obsess over games, reading every faq I can get my hands on, talking strategy or game-talk with friends, sometimes buying the strategy guides just so I can obssess on the can.
I buy game fairly rarely though, so its not TOO much of a disruption...I guess...

I just spend £35 on a new game... now, what's the first thing I'm going to do? Hmm... :p...
Maybe play it?
I only read the instructions after I finish it, so that I can learn about all the cool tricks that could have stopped me shouting and swearing in parts I couldn't do. It always makes more sense afterwards!

It's not a good game if you can't swear in frustration at it. For example - Max Payne original gets bloody had near the end on DOA, but Max Payne 2 doesn't. Ergo, original is better than sequel.

Play it in the lowest level of difficulty
Then i play it again, increasing the level of dificulty
I use only cheats if i cant advance

Oh no, I just mean about stupid little things, like opening doors :D. I often read through the instruction manual afterwards and go 'Oooooh, I didn't know you could do THAT...'. Kinda makes you wonder why I don't just read the manual first, or during installation, but meh, I'm an idiot, what can you do?
