MSN Messenger, is it down or is it just me. And if you say "They've taken it down so they can charge for it" something ive wondered why they didnt do for some time now, i will die. :P

Trillian won't help. I'm on Gaim and can't connect, either.

I would dispute the claim that MSN is the best of them. The requirement to use your e-mail address knocks it down a rung right off the bat. The lack of support for non-Windows operating systems is another big X.

Overall, I would say that AIM is the best.

i've heard from elsewhere that yes, the whole MSN is down and has been for at least an hour now. No idea why. As for it sucking or not - well it works fine for me (when it's working) and I use it these days cos most of my (real life) friends do; we used to use icq back when it was good (before AOL bought it) but even though I still have icq, nobody I know uses it.

That long? I'd guess some serious maintenance/upgrades then... But it's odd there's no news about it on their website, if they were doing something major they'd probably tell us about it: 'look we're so cool!! etc'. I'm sure you can live without MSN for a while though :)

Well id believe you were it not for the fact taht i stopped being able to log on about the time Girl intterupted came on channel four and have not been able to log on since.

Oh, and to those saying use Trillian, well I do use Trillian sometimes, but since it's the MSN servers that are down, it doesnt matter how you try to connect to them, it still won't work :p

Trillian is only an alternative method of connecting to the principle messenger systems anyway, not a messenger in its own right...

Blast, I've got 98. Oh well, at least I'm not a slave to the corporate machine, and I don't think 98 will become totally obselete anytime soon.

Apparently, XP has more bugs in it than a decomposed rubbish tip. At least 98 can run the original Command and Conquer: Red Alert. (Yeah, I know XP can as well, but I don't want to go through the configuration process)

There's a display picture vunerablility in MSN 6.x. Windows Messenger and Windows Media Player are vunerable because of it too, but MSN 7 isn't affected.
It could be the reason the MSN servers are down?

i never liked using MSN messenger.

Yahoo messenger has always worked super well for me and provided me with all teh messenger funcitonality I could ask for and then some.

Its been down since I talked to you yesterday Fenix. Its a branch of Microsoft so they probably arent fixing anything. They probably had someone do something screwinmg it for the rest of us. It makes me very POed! But hay Im not the only one. It loks like it might be down forever at the rate they are going.

As to ICQ, I wouldn't recommend it as it is the least safe messenger service on the net. ICQ leaves so many of your ports open, a simple script kiddie could access your machine, let alone what some one who actually knew what they were doing could do. Beware of ICQ.

MSN has been furstrating me and my friends as well, I have however, been able to sign in after many attempts and much waiting. I was on around 4 today and they just boote dme off (5:30) and i'm attempting to get back in. As long as you're patient and persistant you can get on, although there are no guarantees as to how long you can get on for...
