I'm listening to Korn and enjoying it-it scares me...

I'm listening to the track "Did my time", and i'm enjoying it. It scares me because normally I am not into that band, as I think they go over the top.

Admittedly I am depressed, I wear black and a trechcoat, and enjoy odd music, but Korn is not somthing I like. I'm weirded out.

(Please note, anyone calling me a goth will not be appreciated. I am my own person, totally different-it is the one thing we all have in common.)

I normally like The Phantom of the Opera, or Linkin park. Maybe a bit of Limp Bizkit every now and again...

You are one weird dude!

Sure you may not be a "Goth", but you dress like it. BTW that style went out years ago.

How many times will you stab whoever calls you a goth?
Can I watch?

Anyway, some of Korn's stuff is good. I like their bassist, he does all sorts of weird stuff that I've never been able to figure out.

Style does not interest me. It was invented by the corporate world so everyone would keep buying newer and more expensive clothing. Hence I will wear whatever the hell i like. Got a problem? Take it up with the complaints department.

Don't be afraid ... it's just a band. Like any band that has written more than 5 songs, everyone can generally find something about it they like.

Music is mood, though, and you may hate all Korn tomorrow and have a strange liking for Streisand or mid-1990s "New Power Generation" Prince stuff.

It's a crazy brain ... it's a crazy world.

Hey, i'm a crazy f**ked up guy.

My depression is linked to the fact I've spent most of my life alone... :(

If you can link it to a physical, outside source (hence, a reason), then it is not depression ... it's unhappiness.

personally i hate korn but some songs...

One recomendation if you like opera and rock/metal then start lsitening to the likes of rhapsody, nothings better for giving you the engry to spend a day smiting the unclean (or helping sales staff get thier PC's working).

Heh-it's not the only reason chum... I have no idea what else is making me unhappy, as i'm even down when around people. I've also been diagnosed with it.

Yup, it's a real bitch. I'm going through the same thing at the moment. I have a fairly good idea what's causing mine, but that's another story. As for the music, it'd scare me as well, but most of the time, as has been said by others, chances are you'll find something by a band that's written a fair few songs that you like.

I first saw Korn supporting Primus at Nottingham Rock City in (I'd guess about 1995) touring their first album. I was blown away by how good they were live, and how unorthodox Jonathan's vocal style was. The whole thing was very lo-fi and dirty, and I have to say they were up there in the top 5 of bands I've seen in a support role. Then when I first heard "Good God" from Life Is Peachy on a Kerrang! compilation tape... I was just mesemerized so I went out and bought both their first albums.

Imagine my disappoint then that everything they've done since is the same shit churned out over and over again with such crisp and neat production values that they've dragged the soul out of why I liked them in the first place.

good luck to you.

as for music, try these:

A Perfect Circle

Incubus

System of a Down

you may find the first very enraged OR classically sad, the second a bit more mainstream rock, the third totally weird.

All, imo, are good.

Especially SOAD's first album. "Sugar" is one of my all time faves of any genre. And my 3 year old son loves it to. So it must be good.

An amusing quote I admit, but i wasn't MADE depressed by music. I BECAME depressed, and music like this actually makes me feel better. Most just like the music so they can follow the flock. People like that disgust me.

Hee, that reminds me of my nephew.
I was at my daddy's and my nephew was there too. He was about one at the time. I popped some Skinny Puppy into the CD player, and he stopped playing with his toys, and started dancing and such. I turned it off, and he stopped. It turns out that he seems to only like to dance to industrial, which is rather funny.

Must raise nephew with good choice in music! Skinny Puppy, MLWTTKK, Front 242, KMFDM, Front Line Assembly!

Mwahahaha...

Who?

They're a full on death metal band. They did a Warhammer 40k themed album, for some reason, which you might recognise.

Meh. I was depressed as a teenager. I was depressed at 14 listening to Ultravox and Adam & the Ants. And I was depressed at 18 listening to Anthrax and Slayer. It's the teenage condition: too much wanking and not enough fresh air. Or something.

And to the person asking about Boltthrower: I had the chance to meet them in the early 90s, playing at the Kaleidoscope in Birmingham (I think it's their home town) as replacements for Coroner who couldn't get work permits. Prolapse and Cerebral Fix were on the same bill and it was one of the best Extreme Metal gigs I ever went to. It was like camping...

Intense. :)

Weren't Bolt thrower the official games workshop band at one point?
I seem to remeber regular mentions of them in really old White Dwarfs (IIRC there were a couple of fantasy battle albums but they are proabably hard to tell from the general stream of fantasy war albums that metal is so fond of).

At least it is better than the arty eletronic weirdness GW go in for now...

bolt thrower rule. good taste. as for the music of the outcasts- check whats in heavy rotation in in my CD player this week

testament- the gathering
slayer- undisputed atttude
morbid angel- abominations Of desolation
stormwitch- tales of terror
candlemass- ancient dreams
limbonic art- in abhorrence dementia
satyricon-volcano
disciples of power- in dust we trust

the arorementioned bands on this thread are lightweight bullshit. if you want to identify yourself as a downtrodden angry misfit, talk to me.
