Am I the only one on this Island completely underwhelmed by Ellen MacArthur?

Honestly, I'm watching the news at the moment and the BBC are going on about iit as if it some event of huge international importance (put it in perspective, it got about as much airtime are the Peace Confrence in Sharm-el-Sheik).

Honestly, I don't care, I would be fine with it if it stayed in the sports section rather then being blown out of all proportion.

"The whole country is proud of her achievment" - TB.

Dammit I'm not, and I bet I can find a few others.

Honestly, the only reason I am watching the TV is for politics. Not some loony that enjoys being by herself (maybe she is giving us a hint  )

Why is this annoying me so much?

I want to know more about peace in the middle east. Bah looks like I'll have to read about it.

It is a fine achievment; one that should be celebrated.

It fails to adumbrate England's loss to Wales however.

Who?

No, I read the article, but...who cares? It seems like a lot of needless effort, really.

I'm fine with people being happy with it.

I just don't think it should be the main news story. It isn't a slow news day. The Middle East may get a whole lot more stable and the government has announced a new policy on immigration.

It is. But many in this country are desperate to feel any form of national pride and will latch onto the most random thing to be happy about.

One every twelve years, it had to happen sooner or later.

Its not only the Beeb.....Sky and ITN are going at it full pelt as well.

However - she has managed an amazing feat. That cannot be denied. To sail single handedly for some 26,000 miles in such a short period of time is pretty incredible.

However there are much more important things going on and I do find it sad that this is getting so much air time.

scratch sad....make it bloody annoyed

I'm only half-British, but I can say that I'm not even half proud. Around the solo yacht trips etc. aren't exactly something to get excited about anymore...

Err... I think she's wasted her life. Sailing is soooo boring.

I guess it's just been a slow news week, and she came into the picture.

It's almost as annoying as that woman who won 2 golds in the olympics and was declared a hero for it. What about all those people dying to serve the evil and greedy needs of our country?

Knighthoods and dameships (Or whatever you call them) seem to be awarded for merely appearing in the corner of a newspaper photograph nowadays, even if you happened to be a passer-by. They've lost all real value. There's gonna be a day when it's special to NOT have a knighthood...

Not with all the power assistance and GMPs etc etc, it's not the lone trip it used to be.
