Anybody ever wonder about slang they have heard? We have people from all over so somebody could answer it.

Hmmm how long before this gets hijacked by Shrub/abortion/SS/Iraq/Condi/Babs/ debates? ;)

What in the name of the Goddess is a "spic"?
I've heard it used in a derogatory fashion, I believe.

Here in the UK, it's old-fashioned slang for an Italian and, by extension, latin people generally. And by further, derogatory extension, black market operatives, pimps &c.

A spic is a derogatory term for a Mexican or Mexican-American.

It is thought to have derived from Speak No English

Don't hear it much these days(At least I haven't).

holla: to say hello, strike up a conversation or deliberately seek out a specific person or group of people to engage in a verbal exchange.

I hear it all the time where I live. And it's not just in referrence to Mexicans...hispanics in general. Some redneck loser decided to strike up a conversation with me in the grocery line one time.....talking about how all these 'spics" were coming over here ....he proceeded to bash the hispanic people and just when I'd given him enough rope....I looked at him and said "hey guess what asshole....my 6 month old son is part hispanic." He looked like he swallowed his tongue. Racist people make me want to smack them really really hard.

Living in a non English speaking country, I don't get to hear too much English slang. Some of the local stuff is fun though when translated. If you want to describe someone here, as being worthy of pity, the term most often used is "coitado". Inocuous enough, until you reaslise it is the past participle of the verb "coitar". This translates as to fuck.
On the street it would not be too strange, but you hear little old ladies using it when talking to priests!

See, this is why you need a small digital camera. That way the rest of us could have laughed at the look on his face.

lol

oh ok.... wow what a annoying thing it would be if I had to announce to people that I was going to say hi to them before actually saying hi (because "lemme holla at'cha" sounds just like that):

"Excuse me. Please let me say hello to you"

"Okay"

"um... Hi"

or even just:

"I am saying hello to you"
" I am saying hi back"

can't you just say hey, hi, hello, sup, yo, wassapppppp, whaddap...? WEll okay, I know you can, but it seems silly to add so much on to a simple greeting.

I know...I should get one. You would have especially loved his hat that said "I'd rather be fishin'" and the rebel flag shirt he had on under his overalls. ;)

What I don't understand is Ebonics.
The words develop so fast. Words I've never heard before are suddenly in rap songs.
And EVERY BLACK PERSON/ WIGGER I KNOW KNOWS WHAT IT MEANS.
It's a conspiracy, I swear it.
