Do the Right and Left really have agendas?

Seriously, all you hear is "This is just the gay agenda" or "this is the corporate agenda" or "religious right agenda" or "the liberal agenda." Conservatives attack liberals for having agendas, while dismissing liberal accusations of conservative agendas. Liberals (more often, imho) accuse conservatives for having agendas, but simply brush off any accusation of a liberal agenda as bogus.

Now for my question: does either side really have an agenda? Or can we just admit that: a.) both sides have agendas or b.) neither side has an agenda. only people have agendas.

If you define an agenda as a list of things a group wishes to accomplish, then both sides have an "agenda."

yes the homosexuals have an agenda, they plan to permeate the media with pictures of homosexual couples not getting beaten to death by the kkk and rednecks so as to convicne people that homosexuality is a good idea and have everyone convert to it and destroy humanity, dont you read the GOP magazine

My thoughts exactly.

Is there a conspiricy? If there is they cancel each other out because I assure you they're on both sides. We'll be fine.

because it usually isn't the gay community being militant about it.

unless we are talking about major american political parties. then they only take actually opposing sides on a tiny number of issues and are nearly the identical on most everything else.

What is wrong with having an agenda?

I use liberals and left interchangably. Yes, the Left can typically refer to only left-leaning people economically, but I really don't care. Most people can understand the thought that liberal and left CAN have the same definition at times.

Perhaps you should ask the people who condemningly use the word.

i don't think the operative word in 'conservative agenda' is 'agenda'

Agenda's, like everything else, are healthy in moderation.
When you get extreme conservatives or extreme socialists it can get a tad frustrating.
Also in some places like the news media they can start to distort peoples veiw of reality as they only get half the information they should if they dont have the mental or physical ability to do their own research

They're identical in that they don't have an opinion on many issues they don't oppose each other on. Some issues are extremely touchy. Politicians would just as soon stick their head in the sand and hope that the issues go away. The alternative to this being such things as energy policy, which is so boring and straightforward that there really are no rational opposing sides to a given answer, given answer being the correct one. These issues just don't get talked about because they don't win an election.

Edit: I thought about it for a second, and I realized energy policy isn't a totally accurate example. There is the debate between nuclear power and 'alternative' energy, most of which is unfeasable and probably will be for all time. I'm looking at wind and solar power here. On a large scale it's rather doubtful that they'll be useful.

I have an agenda: get the government off my back, out of my pocket, and out of my bedroom, unless by government you mean some cute intern. :)

But conservative and liberal can have the same economic definition too (at least in Europe.)
