When you walk.. through a storm. Hold your head up high,
And don't be a afraid of the dark

At the end of the storm, is a golden sky
at the sweet silver song of the lark

Walk on, through the wind, walk on through the rain
though your dreams be tossed and blown

walk on, walk on, with hopes in your heart
And you'll never walk alone, You'll never walk alone.

Liverpool fan. :)

I'm beginning to love English soccer... have been watching it on Fox Sports World in the US for a couple of years now. My favorite teams in the world:

1. Liverpool
2. AC Milan
3. Manchester United
4. Juventus
5. Tottenham Hotspur

Favorite European players:

goal: G. Buffon (Juve)

left back: Ashley Cole
center-back: Fabio Cannavaro
center-back: A. Nesta
right back: Gary Neville

left wing: christiano ronaldo
central midfielder: steven gerrard
attacking midfielder: francesco totti
right wing: arjen robben (i'd put him there on this team)

striker: andriy schevchenko (sp?)
striker: jermaine defoe (sp?)

defoe is vastly underrated, imo

Is it just me... or has the Bundesliga really fallen to the level of Ligue 1 (france)? Didn't the German top league used to be cocmpetitive with English, Italian and Spanish top leagues?

I mean... it seems like Bayern Munich would be fighting for the last Champions League spot with Everton and Liverpool if they were in the EPL.

and if we're picking favorites by league/country, then:

England: Liverpool

Spain: Valencia

Italy: AC Milan

Germany: Leverkusen

Holland: Ajax

France: uhhh... I guess Marseilles

Mon the Gers! Rangers fan right here. However, I do enjoy watching the English Premiership more than the SPL, n down there it has to be Chelsea (supported em since about 7 years ago, mainly because I was just startin to get into football and Zola was my fave player).

what i have yet to understand about the FA is how an all-time great club like West Ham could be in the second-best league... how did West Ham end up out of the EPL?

and what about Nottingham Forest? They won the Champions League twice (as many times as Man U) and are also not in the EPL.

i think i made it quite clear that i acyually support BLACKPOOL FC!!! and not Arsenal, i just remebered a really good joke though (actually it's an awful joke but i'm gonna tell it anyway!)

there were 3 men walking through the desert and they hadn't eaten in days when suddenly they come across a camel, so the first one says 'well i support Liverpool, so I'll eat the liver' so the second one says 'ok, well i support Hearts so I'll eat the heart' the third one turns to them both and says 'well i support Arsenal but all of a sudden i don't feel quite so hungry'

That is the beauty of the English game. We have no teams which always dominate. Granted we get periods, such as Man U in the 90's and the almighty Liverpool of the preceeding 2 decades. But nothing like the old firm in Scotland, or Barcelona and Real Madrid in Spain.

Merseyside is the area, what with being around the river Mersey. Anfield is the road, hence the name of the stadium.

This remainds me of a joke. First of all I have nothing against anybody in this joke. I'm not even from england. I've just heard how tight rivalry between clubs can be.

the hole arsenal sguad is in a pub before a match. It's against Tottenham. Suddenly Bergamp says he could beat Tottenham all by himself. Other Arsenal players doubt him and ask Bergamp to proof it. So Bergamp goes to the match alone. Other Gunners watch the game in the pub. At half-time Arsenal (Bergamp) is leading 1 to 0. All the players think that bergamp was'nt lying and this was a easy game. So they leave the pub to go the stadium congratulate Bergamp. But when they reach the stadium they find out that the match ended 1-1. "What went wrong?" Henry asked Bergamp. I would have won but I got a red card 10 minutes before the second half was over.

Sorry if my english ruined the joke... :p

Okay, english folks and others who are FA fanatics:

If change is a constant in the success of English teams, then.. who are the most consistently good teams in English football? Which clubs have been, oh, in the top ten for most of their existence?

I would imagine that we could start with three teams:

Manchester United
Arsenal FC
Liverpool FC

...assuming that they've been among the best teams in England for some time.

What are other such teams?

Anyway, I support Arminia Bielefeld of Germany, so there! :D

there are no americans at our soccer matches... unless it's the US national team against a world power. hehe

among the americans who attend soccer games here, the latinos seem to like blowing those plastic horns (can't think of a name for them... makes a shrill "toooooooooooooot" noise). Or maybe they all use the horns.

What is the most vicious derby in England?

I've heard from an English source that it is the Merseyside Derby -- Liverpool vs. Everton.

Chelsea are really good and Man U have been playing great lately... which makes for an interesting Champions League knock-out round. I think that there are five clear favorites (alphabetically):

Barcelona
Chelsea
Juventus
Manchester United
AC Milan

With the following three teams able to crash that party, if they play to their ability:

Arsenal
Inter
Real Madrid

Sadly, the match-ups are not very fair -- for instance, Man U vs. AC Milan in the round of 16. That should be a semifinal match-up or finals match-up.. not the stinkin' round of 16. Man U should be matched with maybe PSV and Milan should get Bremen.
