The Krew is on parade.

(What'll you ladies do for some beads?)

Ya'll come eat this gumbo!

I was in New Orleans the weekend of January 21/22, and let me tell you, they get started on Mardi Gras WAY early.

Got loads of beads, but not by doing anything that I'd be embarrassed to end up in a photograph.

The first strand I was given, I was told, was simply because I was smiling. :)

One of my best strands was given to me by a guy who wanted me to ... well, let's just say to do the "Girls Gone Wild" thing ... but then I pointed to my boyfriend and said, "He won't let me." (Gotta love passing the blame to your boyfriend!) So the guy said, "I respect that" and gave me a huge strand of beads. Yay Southern men. :D

I danced for some others, too.

Prosophia, you do know that flashing for beads isn't a real N'awlins tradition, don't you? ;)
That's something invented (more or less) by the "Girls Gone Wild" crowd, and is done only by tourists in the French Quarter. A *real* Southern gentleman would ask no such thang.

Straight people are so debauched. Why do they have to display themselves in such a manner?

;)

Well then, I'm glad I didn't take part in it. :D

Plus, I found it to be much more of a challenge to find other means to getting beads!
