I think everyone is good at at least one thing, so vote for the thing which you think you're best at.

Although I'm better than a lot of my competion at all of the above (if I do say so myself), I'll say Art since web design pays most of the bills here.

And I'm only half-good in athetics. Basically, I'm better than all the average lardy American youth.

I tend to be more artistic in what I do, writing stories, writing poetry, and cooking. I wish I had a way to make money off of it, but seems those things don't pay the bills around here. I'm thinking about getting some courses in counseling, I'm told I'm good at talking with people, though currently I am the person that needs the help. Doesn't help that I have no one to talk to and am going nuts right now either.

I think I’d excel in social skills and English. Unfortunately I don’t really hold much of an interest in the other areas…

They aren't all dumb jock genre you know. Just because someone is giftend in sprots doesn't mean that they haven't the capability to do well in other areas. I have a cousin who will very likely be playing in the NHL one day, I'm proud of him for that - and I want it known that he has very good backup plans in place for such an event that he cannot accomplish this (personal injury etc etc). He is good at hockey, but that doesnt mean he isnt smart too. I really dislike it when people make that stereotype. :(

I couldn't see philosophy, so I put English... logic might count if I could think logically. I'm an erratic philosopher.
Prosophia
06-02-2005, 21:48
I chose logic, but really I rely on intuition quite a lot in my analytical abilities - it's like I've worked out a whole bunch of ways of solving something at once but am not aware of each logical step, until I slow down and reflect on how I came to a conclusion.

Or something.

I'm also fairly artistic, but alas, I have not done anything recently. I miss it, though. :(

I apparantly have a natural talent for writing-stories and poems (and essays I guess).

I'm top of my year in Maths and Biology. Top of my year overall with my grades actually...

And I am very good at empathising and listening. Which are just two of the many many skills that you haven't even come close to including.

I picked English, but I'm not really excellent at anything. I'm pretty good at most of those, except math. I've been told that my interests are "wide but not deep." I know a little about a lot. But a lot about very little.

There are a lot of skill areas not listed in your poll. A few examples:

Interpersonal Relations

Public Speaking

Listening

Leadership

Writing [ although you may have intended that to be under "English" ]

These are just the ones I came up with because I excel in them. ;)

A lot of those things draw upon the same skills. You can't be good at math or science without a complete understanding of logic. Also, math/science students tend to be very good at music. Music and art have obvious overlaps, and I would say that English overlaps with them as well. I think that you could link athletics, making things, and social skills, too. And lateral thinking belongs in that list about as much as logic.

As such, I'm pretty good at most of those things. Athletically, I couldn't knock over a little kid, but I can outrun almost anybody. I'm also very good at strategy and coordination. My social skills can be interesting. I see little need for artistic expression, so I never bothered to develop those skills, but I'm pretty good at making models and web design (like Eichen, I too have gathered some income at it, but I stick to the text-based side of things: Perl, SQL, XML). Again, I'm good at English, but I have no motivation to study it. I'm good enough at building things, as long as they don't need to be aesthetically pleasing.

As such, I said math, for reasons that I would rather not go into.

If I had to design the poll, though, I would go for more fundamental things: logic, memory, physical strength, endurance, coordination, social skills, artistic expression, etc. Also, I would allow you to select more than one.

I'm a strategic thinker. Obviously, I'm not a tactician. But if I had chosen to be, I would have been an excellent one. I have the perfect combination of analytical and intuitive ability to excel at it.

In my life, it makes me a very adaptable person.

I can't answer the poll. I am exceptionally creative, and I apply it to all the areas in the poll. I work in Science, supporting R&D, but I also write and draw for my own amusement.
Thought, when I saw the title of this topic, I thought it be about different ways to use a computer database program...

I'm pretty durn good at writing. Of course, I can't spell and grammar hates me, but that's what Word is for, right? I can type out an essay for English in 15 minutes, and still get a high B on it. I'm also good at more journalistic writing.

I'm even alright at athletics! I took dance for 5 years, and I test for my black belt later this year.

Course, I'm horrible at math and such...
