Politics/Religion/Music - seems that's all I see in the General forum these days so. . .

Now for something completely different

If you built your computer yourself and are proud of it (and I bet we've got a bunch of those here) Tell us about it, brag on yourself, post a picture if you want. Let's see who's the uber techno guy. Use the following format it will make things easier for those who follow up. Here's one of mine (I have 4, but this is the one I use most).

Motherboard: ASUS A7N8X-E (Deluxe)
Chipset: Nvidia N-Force 2
CPU: AMD Mobile Athlon XP 2500+, OC'd to 2.5 Gigahertz (200 FSB x 12.5 Multiplier)

Removable Drives: Zip 250, Memorex Double-Layer DVD +/- R/RW burner
Sound: Onboard Soundstorm with Klipsch 5.1 speaker set-up
Case: Lian-Li Aluminum
Cooling: Coolermaster HCC-001 Sink with 7,200 rpm tornado fan.
Voltages: 1.65 - CPU, stock - RAM & Video
Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 213T - 21.3" LCD
Average CPU Temp: 117 F/47 C.
Misc: Combo floppy drive/CF/SM/SD card reader, CoolerMaster Aerogate II temp. monitor and fan controller.
Benchmarks: I've not run any in a long time and find that comparing this from system to system is like apples-bananas - feel free to post yours if you wish though.

Not that bad, at least not mine. Admittedly, not as good as a CRT for fast action stuff. Does most well though - Simcity, Civilization, etc. work fine. Doom3 is good too until I get moving really fast.

Motherboard: ABIT IC7-G+
CPU: Pentium4 2.4 @ 3.1, 800FSB, its a Phillipino chip too - Much better than the Costa Rica crap out there.
RAM: 2x512 Dual Channel matched OC-Z Platinum - PC3500
HDD's & Controller: 1 (yes *sigh* only 1) Seagate Baracuda 120GB 7,200 rpm, 8 Meg. cache on SATA
Video: ATI 9800 128 megs video RAM (not OC'd)
Removable Drives: Lite-On Double-Layer DVD +/- R/RW burner, Lite-On 52x32x52 CD-RW
Sound: Onboard with Logitech Z-560 4.1, 400W (waiting for the z-5500 to come down in price a little so I can sell these and upgrade)
Case: Antec Sonata, Black with a piano like finish - mod'd and has blue LED feet, 2x120mm blue LED fans, windowed, blue LED 400W TruePower, Sleeved in black tech-flex, two blue cold-cathodes in case - one under.
Cooling: Vantec MTD fan - these things are awesome!
Voltages: Sorry - can't be bothered to check and can't remember off hand
Monitor: ViewSonic Graphics Professional Series (in black), P90f - 19" Flat CRT
Average CPU Temp: 120 F
Misc/Input: Logitech MX-700 wireless combo, Logitech OrbitCam - everything is sooo black and shiny! I have mod'd a lot of my peripherals to have the same blue LED's where they would otherwise be green or red, and I have several blue LED tubes running externally hidden under the various levels of my desk to continue the theme. Plus I have the coolest blue LED mouse pad that I adore when it's lit. Luckily I have a Belkin F6C500-UNV UPS - saves my ass a lot.

Thats pretty much that. Not the best, but it does pretty good. :)

Processor: AMD Athlon 3000, says here 797+ MHz
HD: 60 GB
OS: Windows XP SP 2
Other features: Wireless capable; in fact, this post is being typed on my wireless connection to my router, which supports a 300ft range and a 54Mb top speed (of course, my connection is a mere 3Mb, but that's how fast connections come these days...I have cable, and that seems to be pretty top-of-the-line for connections these days.)

Also, it's a laptop, so wherever I go, it can come. I can take it to a hotel and hook it up to a power source (though it has a two-hour battery life) and just go to a wireless connection. That or a coffee shop, where I can eat clam chowder out of a sourdough bread bowl and sip on a fancy coffee with a name I can't pronounce while I surf the internet.

Check the last post of this Type for my PC. It's two steps above Valia's in In RAM and Processor, same everywhere else. This don't really matter, though, because I program in ASM and the only games I play from the past ten years are text-based (Dragon Court, as I'm a friend of Fred Haslam (programmer of Sim City 2K) and could briedly have called myself a "close-personal" friend of his.

The only real mods Ive done, are to the case - cut in a window, and drilled some holes for the LED feet I put on - which are kinda nice looking at night. Does anyone else here get into the appearance side of modding? :)

That sounds pretty decent alright, but you need to sell that RAM and get at least PC3200 @ 400MHz or you arent even using that bus speed to its max. Do you know where your chip was made?

Icidentally, I was torn when building my computer as to which pro. I would use (AMD/INTEL) the code name 'Prescott' for the HyperThread enabled chips from Pentium is what made my mind up - Prescott is my last name. Interesting useless information. :)

I chose the Prescott chip cuase it had the 1 MB L2 cache, figured it had to be better than 512k.
Turns out I wasnt dissapointed.
It really crunches numbers, and *i* think it compares to faster chips.

This is the first computer Ive built, and I wasnt sure if PC3200 was going to be fullly compatable so I went with the PC 2700 to be safe.
Havent really noticed any issues with it being slower, but im sure that if I CAN safely use PC 3200, it would cook even better.

My graphic card aint nothing to brag about, and therefore has not been mentioned.

My system aint no Alienware machine, but mine only cost me about 700$.
And it does whatever I ask it to, so Im pretty happy.

I've got basically the same chip, and I have PC3500 (youre safe to use whatever you want btw, the higher frequency need only be considered by oc'ers like me though) I have my chip heavily oc'd right now, but I can bc it's a Phillipino chip not a Costa Rican chip. The CR chips can't take as much abuse aparently. Either way, yeah I like my system too, it was a budget build but I'm quite happy with the results. I posted it on here a ways back - page two or three I think. My graphics card is nothing special either, 9800 pro w/128Mb compared to these guys running the X800's with 256... but I can't be bothered to spend 600-700 bones Cdn on just that one component. I can't wait to build another system when Intel's new chipset goes down in price - and get my hands on some DDR2 spec - that stuff is rad. :)

it's a 386 with a zx81 taped to the top. Neat, eh?

I don't really know all that much about my pc...

athlon 2.8ghz or something.
700 odd meg of ram
Geforce 5200 mx, either that or some other graphics card.
120gb hard-drive.
oh yeah, and a 14inch monitor from the days of yore.
That's about it.

pitiful knowledge, hmmm?

Meh ... it's just a computer ...

Dual Boot system, Win XP/ Fedora Core 2 (Linux)
Intel Cel 2.66
512 Ram (DDR 400/3200)
Motherboard is a ECS PT800CE-A
Video: PNY nVidia GeForce2 MX
Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 793MB
Sound: Sound Blaster Audigy 4 Pro (I'm very proud of that one)
The usual bells and whistles.

It runs Doom3 without any lag and it does everything I need it to do.

I find that internet usage and access greatly decelerates your computer's speed. I suggest having one comp for internet and one for games and junk.
