What should I do?

I was in a bar once and got talking to an American. And we discussed many things. However towards the end of the night he came out and described how he has a secret desire to sleep with a minor. He said that he always wanted to sleep with someone under the legal age.

My response to this was "Well, horses for courses I suppose". I then made my excuses and quickly left the bar.

My friends say that I should have taken the details of this man and handed them in to my local police station. I however am unsure.

So my question is, what should I do?

Wanting to do it isn't a crime. There's nothing to report. Until he confesses to actually doing it he's not a criminal, just a really sleazy guy.

Meh, maybe a pervert but saying you want to do something and actually doing it are completely different.

If you did decide to do something i'm not sure what you could do o_O

You should never try to police intent. Attempts to control how people think, feel or dreams are ridiculous. I’m sure we can all name a dozen books or histories that deal with the concept of a police state. One where the population or at least its leaders fear what dwells in mankind’s thoughts.

Furthermore alcohol has very prescribed affects on human behavior. You’re more inclined to say or do things when under its influence than you would normally. Most adults are rational members of society but you’re not born that way. Along the long path of maturity you are bound to think up all sorts of crazy ideas. I’m sure he really did think about what he said but I’m equally sure that 99.9% of the world’s population would not follow through.

Seriously, unless you know this person to be mentally damaged and actually in the process of committing a crime you should just move on.

No, it was the CIA. If he responded by expressing a similar interest in kids they would set him up with a young prostitute and take incriminating pictures. Then they would blackmail him into spying for the USA.

You should have lent him a dictionary with an accurate entry for the word 'secret', somehow once it's spread on an internet forum, secret no longer applies...annoymonous is probably a better description now...
