eew.. in my opinion at least. sorry, i had to say it. ignore me.
either way, from that list, i would say cobain. one of the most interesting people ever, wrote some of the best lyrics ever, and i loved the enthusing. he was the ultimate anti-rockstar, a persona i love, because of its "what what you'd like" philosophy. cobain had such a passion for music, of any kind. anything with passion was good to him, as opposed to just plain skill. i dont remember the quote exactly, but it was the along the lines of: "it doesnt matter how you do it, just make music. smash your guitar, use it as a drum, it doesnt matter. so long as it comes from your soul."
cobain was the man. for far more reasons then i posted, those were just the ones that came to mind. hendrix and morrison are also damned fine choices to me.
Voted for kurt, and like the other people who did it, I´m quite ashamed of my choice. I mean, nirvana is unfortunatly rated as teenage garbage and I quite dislike people who go all "OMFGWTF KURT IS TEH GYU AND I WILL STOP BATHING JUZ BCAUZ HE DID IT!!111!!!1"
Well, nirvana actually is teenage garbage, I just don´t like the bloody proto-humans. People should be born with 20 yo and die with 29.

I agree, but you notice how the fans make a big effort to imitate him? The basic nirvana motto was "be yourself" and after people hear this they wanna be like kurt! I mean! Teenagers understand things backwords!

i agree with you completly, most of his fans are like that. its because they went mainstream, most cobain "fans" are the people who only know teen spirit, and thats it. i, however, listen to nirvana because i love every aspect of their music and their ideals. their non-selloutness among many other things. my hair is long because i wanted to do something differnet and i liked it not because kurts hair was. i play guitar because i have an obsession with music, not becasue kurt did. i enjoy creating feedback because i think its unique, disturbing, i think it shows passion and love for music, not because... well, you get my point. not all his fans are like that.
sorry for droning on... kinda sleepy.

Hey...apples vs oranges. First, if it is about a single key figure in rock history...(puke) Elvis wins. But you said 'front man', implying a group w/ a single imposing figure. This rules out some big time & current greats. Jim Morrison probably has an inside track (sells more music now than when alive & made a movie)...consequently, TuPac is a force to be considered (rock?). Cobain...same block, died before he became "old". Rock & roll, what about Robert Plant? ...Page was the brains but what a show! (Daltrey?). Ahhh, the complexity...Never Mind: Johnny Rotten! F*cK YA aLl!

...rotten idea, "Go F*k"!...but, it occurs to me that I was not giving Mick Jagger as the frontman of the RollingStones fair credit. Those bastards (Keith) my pen a hit song tomorrow...and this whole discussion would become moot. The Codgers still go on tour -I saw them, And it was worth every dime!
If they pull out a top 40 -the Best Band Ever ? is over.
I voted Jim Morrison, but i'd consider Robert Plant and Kurt Cobain almost equal. (Yes, Kurt. So shoot me.)

Probably Cobain, because thats my type of frontman
stuck to his ideals, had a voice that fitted perfectly with his music, had a stage presence, a sense of humour. and he really believed in his music
but, if were going for the most clasically "rock" frontman, then Axl Rose (twat that he is)

Nope. I used to just be "Mutant Dogs" but the mods made some errors and I got deleted twice.
Out of that list, I gotta go with Bruce Dickinson.

Generic empire

Axl Rose for sheer virtue of the fact that he presided over the greatest rock empire to ever grace the entirety of the cosmos. Plus he was one of only six human beings capable of gracing a stage with the God Slash. (Gilby doesn't count.)
