For god knows what reason I signed myself up for the Labour email newsletter. No idea why, I've only really been giving them quick glances before clicking delete. However this one caught my eye. Basically it is asking to vote on what I think is the best choice for a Labour campaign poster, being a good labour supporter and all [ahem]. So what do you think?

I do like the way that Labour arent confident in their own policies....so instead of telling people what they are, they resort to attacking their opposition

Well, at least they aren't running the old posters.

Sad though really.

A party should be able to stand on its own record and proposals, not try to slander the other side.

I think #3 would be the most effective, although they're all simple and to the point.

Being an American, I don't get #1, therefore I voted for it.

We're talking about the New Right criticising the Old Right. You expected no hypocrisy?

Which one was that?

Seven years away from the UK and nothing, absolutely nothing, has changed there. In politics, anyway. Not even the faces.

Which one was that?

There was one with Howard and Letwin's faces imposed onto flying pigs with something like "When their tax plans work..." written underneath.

Oh yeah, now I remember.

But I would hardly call that anti-semitic. Ill advised and stupid, yes. But hardly anti semitic.

True, actually all the political correctness watchdogs are split over the issue. But, if superimposing the faces of politicians onto pigs is considered a valid contribution to political debate these days, then surely screaming discrimination at every opportunity is also such.

And let us not forget whose contribution to the debate this is. The British Government. Not some internet kid with Photoshop, but our own government has dumbed itself down to the level of an AOL chatroom. "Pathetic", uttered in the most bitter and contemptuous voice, does not begin to describe it.

I never saw the pig one but in the last but one election when Labour released a poster with Margaret thatcher's hair photoshopped onto William Hagues' head I didnt think they'd be able to get much lower than that, seems I was wrong.

And they wonder why voter apathy is prevailing.

i like 2.

People should be reminded what happened under thatch - did you know that the tories kept interest rates and unemployment deliberately high to combat inflation? I didn't find this out until quite recently. I thought they were just incompetent, but no they were selfish.

I don't think people need reminding at all. If you were alive in the 80's you will remember. Even those who are disillusioned with Labour and the Liberal Democrats can't bring themselves to vote for the Tories.

I voted for 3, because it's the only one that even begins to hint at cleverness.

But I think they're all quite bad, to be honest.

[The infamous 'anti-semitic' one. I think we all agree, a twelve year old could photoshop better.]

*Sigh* I suppose there is truth in the saying that there is a difference between not caring and refusing to take part out of disgust.

Ha!
I love the last batch.
And I thought the US was bad with negative campaigning...

This gives me an idea! Negative campaigning might be an interesting NS issue, if one could figure out how each way would affect things.

Yay for negative campaigning! It reminds me of the election that was held here! Same flavour, different names!
