So many have said how much this movie sucks. It doesn't. It is an Americanized version of a fun Japanese story, but the same person who directed the Japanese version also directed the American version.
This wasn't a bad flick. If you're looking for the American "slasher angry hockey mask wearing serial killer" horror film, then you're sad out of luck. This is a Japanese horror film.
Damn fine work, if you ask me. Hell ... there was even a cameo by Takashi Shimizu. :)
That's all I have to say about that.

It was a great movie. Whenever I think about it and I'm alone I feel compelled to look over my shoulder by reflex. Creepy,

My GF begged me for weeks to take her. I don't scare easily and this movie was no exception. For some reason I just cannot get scared at a movie. She was very frightened though because she a scardy cat. From a movie perspective I thought the only thing good about it was how cute Sarah looked.

All right. Firstly, both Ringu and Jin Roh are okay horror movies. The americanized versions of both, however, suck. Basically the movies are stripped of most of their symbolism and made to be ummm, flashier would be the best way to describe it, than the originals. So they take the best part of the movies and toss it out the window. THAT is why the american versions suck.

Well ... they do that because 90% of Americans wouldn't get that symbolism. Watching a man run up the stairs, then a flash to a withering lilac, then a flash to a cat yelling, then back to the man running would mean absolutely nothing to an American.
I think the way both Ringu and Jin Roh were altered to bring it to an American audience perspective was nothing shy of brilliant. Translation is almost never easy.

It sucked because there were a lot of threads in time that were never adequately resolved (after a while, it was difficult to determine whether we were seeing ghosts or a flashback).
Not that you have to resolve all threads, but there's a good reason to use Storytime Pro to keep your script in order. It's the core reason that some stories and movies are far, far better, and far more memorable than others.
The only horror movie this year that was worse was Darkness, which had the dumbest ending of all time (it was as if the director ran out of ideas after raising all sorts of interesting issues).
