Geeze, folks! At least read about this real-life hero! :(

Indeed they should Eutrusca - I read about this shortly after his death last year. I am very happy to see that his heroism has been recognised in the most appropriate way that it could be.

To bad his death, and the other 1,300+ Americans (not to mention the tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians), was a waste.

I read his story earlier today at work, and shared it around the office. It makes us proud to see an Operation Iraqi Freedom vet recognized for his sacrifice and his protection of others.

Good job, troll. Crap on the man's memory while you can.

Hey, I thought you had me on "Ignore?"

Couldn't resist a peak?

I didn't crap on his memory - that AWOL chimp in the White House did that when he sent this guy to do a job that he himself was unwilling to do when he was a young man.

I don't know how Vietnam Vets can support that pampered coward.

While I oppose the war and the policies of the Bush Administration, I admire the courage and bravery of the men and women who are fighting for their country. They are people like everyone else. They deserve no less respect.

But, people like Sergeant Smith who did more than fight deserve the honour of being recognized by their country and not just because someone nominated them.

Just a question - how exactly did this man protect American liberty? Why was he in Iraq? Why is dying devotion?

Yes, its sad that he died in Baghdad, away from his wife and kids. But did he need to die? And why was the family smiling in the picture? I'd be pretty damn pissed and sad if my father died in a war I didn't think need to be fought.
