Which band do you most regret never having seen live?

A little sideways spin off from the Led Zep vs Queen Thread.

Some of these bands are still going, but are past their heyday.

Argh, lots.
I was born after my time, and I missed most of the stuff I like. All the good punk bands, all the goth bands, most of the good post-punk.

One specific thing I really wish I could've seen was Shellac at Lounge Ax, Halloween 1998. They dressed up as the Sex Pistols and performed a whole set as them, with David Yow from The Jesus Lizard performing as John Lydon.

A website about it. (http://www.petdance.com/actionpark/shellac/halloween-98/)

It sounds as though it were one hell of a show.

btw - out of the choices listed - I would love to go back in time and see the Beatles, Zep, Queen etc.

so consider Sublime to be a request of the more 'reasonable' nature, since they are a band from my generation, that I cannot ever see (obviously) since Bradley Nowell is dead.

Yeah, they were an awesome band. At first I hated them because they were a bit weird, but then I realized weird can be good. Of course, like every other band I like, they broke up before I even knew they existed, most likely.

I voted Pink Floyd, but I'd add to that David Bowie (Ziggy days), Sisters of Mercy, The Doors, Skinny Puppy (not just Nivek with KMFDM, saw that concert), and the Velvet Underground come to mind.

Skinny Puppy
Yay!
Wait, I thought they were still together. Didn't they just tour in 2004?
Although, I must admit I don't like their recent stuff very much.

eh... I dunno. None, really. I'm not a gig person. Well, I suppose Queen.

Of course, as an alternate selection, I'd have to say Mozart, maybe Holdst. But they'd have to play a best of. A lot of these guys had too much filler inbetween the great stuff. Especially beethoven. He was terrible for that, in my opinion.

And as another alternate, I'd have loved to have seen Miles Davis or Louis Armstrong play.

I wish I had the chance to see Thin Lizzy live. I guess I do, as there is a band with Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham (I think) touring as Thin Lizzy, but let's face it, Phil Lynott made that band.

I wish the Smashing Pumpkins were still together, I became a fan too late :(

I have missed concerts by Opeth and Múm due to factors beyond my control. I want to see them live.

I wish I could see U2. They are playing in my city this summer (lol, my home city is also U2's home city) but the tickets cost €60 euro. I would take it as a personal humiliation to pay that much money for a concert. So I won't go until they charge a fair price.

Definately Rage Against The Machine. I was too young to go and see them live before they broke up.

You can feel the emotion and the rage just listening to their CDs, the tension and atmosphere at their concerts must have been incredible.

I would include U2, but I don't regret not spending £50 on a ticket to see them on their upcoming tour. They are my favourite band but theres no way I'll pay that money for one concert, albeit at a stadium.

I've heard they're good, although I've only heard short bits of their music.
I should probably go check out their CD next time I leave the house.

The Doors was an oversight on my part. The Beatles simply do not quite fit with the other choices. To pop not enough rock. I suppose I should have included the word rock in the title of the thread.

Hrm, let me dig up that old link, there was a website with sound.
Argh, what the hell. The site seems to be down or dead. It was entitled "Stairway to Heaven Backwards", but it had other bands if I remember correctly.
It was here (http://www2.memlane.com/jmilner/stairwaybackwards.htm).

No matter, I've found another site.

Nirvana. I think it was December of '93 when they came thru my part of the world. Cobain was dead in April of '94. I was 14 years old and a huge Nirvana fan. I could've gone, but I didn't. I also regret only seeing Pantera once.

Aye.

I wish I could've seen the Grateful Dead before Jerry Garcia died. Cream would be neat too. I'm surprised that Jimi Hendrix isn't up there, though. Now that would be a show, especially with the Band of Gypsies.

The Talking Heads would also have been great to see live, and Stop Making Sense just blows me away every time.

I'd have to say, though, if I had to choose only a few musicians, it would have to be Booker T. and the MGs and Marvin Gaye. My Grandfather went to a Marvin Gaye show where a snake escaped into the auditorium.

Apparently it was amazing though. Its funny how my 82-year-old grandpa is such a huge soul and R&B fan.

Because I don't think of Hendrix as a band. I know that is unfair, but it is what kept him/them off the list, along with Janis.

I would probably have to say The Clash on one of their 1978 tours, or possibly early 1979 prior to the release of London Calling. In a way though, with the death of Joe Strummer, I can say that I am somewhat glad that we know now that there won't ever be a half-arsed reunion tour. One other consoling thought is that a great deal of their gigs were in fact bootlegged and so the performances aren't entirely lost to the mists of time, as the 80+ hours of live stuff on my hard drive attests.

As far as performances that I just missed goes - I managed to miss seeing Pete Seeger play at the WTC (prior to it coming down, obviously) by about five minutes due to a delay on the NY underground. Damn. I still want to see him before he croaks.
