...win at life. They're awesome.
Edaward Ka-Spel has probably the most impossible to understand lyrics of anybody short of Syd Barrett.
If you haven't heard of the LPD's yet, they have a bunch of stuff up on Epitonic (http://www.epitonic.com/artists/thelegendarypinkdots.html). My favourite song of theirs is "Belladonna".
A sample of Ka-Spel's lyrics:
"Belladona. Sea blue marshmallow eyes.
Belladonna sees you - it's just a disguise.
She sees nothing but grey.
Belladonna. Ice cool, shaken not stirred.
Belladonna. Whisper only the word and she would wash the day away...
And as I faded through the years,
she found an answer to the tears.
It wasn't wise, but no, no humble mortal ever matched these eyes. Belladonna - pretty name for a slave.
Belladonna. Starburst - shouts from the grave
"I'll remember our dawn."
Belladonna - pretty name for a slave.
Belladonna. Starburst - shouts from the grave
"I'll remember our dawn...""

I've always thought of The Legendary Pink Dots as the band for Pink Floyd fans that wanted to be snottier than the "only early Syd Barrett" Pink Floyd fans.
But I worked at a record store long enough to have an opinion like that on just about anything. I try to get over it.
Not a bad band. Haven't really gotten into them myself.

Wow, that is almost as obscure as Tori Amos:
Standin on a corner in Winslow Arizona
and I'm quite shure I'm in the wrong song
2 girls 65 got a piecetied up in the
back seat
"honey we're Recovering Christians"
in the Springtime of his voodoo
he was going to show me spring
and right here for a minute
I knew you so well
got an angry snatch
girls you know what I mean
when swivelin that hip doesn't do the trick
me pureed sanitarily Mr Sulu
warp speed
warp speed
warp speed
in the spring time of his voodoo

Tori Amos?
"Blood Roses
Blood Roses
Back on the street now
can't forget the things you never said
on days like these gets me thinking
when chickens get a taste of your meat
chickens get a taste of your meat
you gave him your blood
and your warm little diamond
he likes killing you after your dead
you think I'm a queer
I think you're a queer
I think you're a queer
Said I think you're a queer
and I shaved every place where you been
I shaved every place where you been
God knows I've thrown away those graces
the Belle of New Orleans tried to show me
once how to tango
wrapped around your feet wrapped around like good little roses
Blood Roses
Blood Roses
back on the street now
now you've cut out the flute
from the throat of the loon
at least when you cry now
he can't even hear you
when chickens get a taste of your meat
when he sucks you deep
sometimes you're nothing but meat"
-"Blood Roses"
"Gotta tell you what I heard
from agent orange
mister suntan
mister happy man
mister I know the girls on all the world tours
mister agent, yeah
he's my favorite
and they don't understand
he's got palm oil pants
yes, he's down and there and everywhere
he's getting in too deep in this
underwater city where she swims and swims"
-"Agent Orange"
Yeah.
Funny, I hadn't realized up til now that her lyrics are that odd. Hmm.
I must be deaf or something.
LPD's are great, but I still prefer the Tear Garden... "You and Me and Rainbows"...
Haven't heard it in a while though.

Except Tori is many times cooler, simply because she's friends with Neil Gaiman.

The first song on Boys for Pele about the horses (forget the title) is dedicated directly to Neil ("Neil makes me a tree")... Tree meaning story. He writes her personal bedtime stories, so she wrote him a song to say thanks.

But wasn't this supposed to be about the Dots? (crazy Tori fans)
They're great. Still only got the last album, got into the thing through Current '93', which is even more obscure! I'll see your Ka-Spell and raise you a Tibet! (completely incomprehensible if you don't dig into his weird obsessions)
"When serpents come/they cover the Christ thorn/Two heads and cockheads/Serpents feet are the motion/Lidded eyes and smudged reality/Everything has two faces/One is Earthly-without true form/the other blackened and blackening/Mother is in the fields/Father's in the fields."
- They Return To Their Earth
But anyway, 'The Whispering Wall' is great. I've listened to it a good dozen times and am still only scratching the surface. The story of the modern man in 'The Divide' is extremely funny and disturbing at the same time, and the combination of an electric groove with bass and horns on 'For Sale' is fabulous. Mad music, man. They're coming near here soon, but then I'll probably be away. Too bad.

Listened to it and not really a big fan. It sounds like Trent Reznor covering NES songs with Syd Barrett singing.
But for some tripped out lyrics:
The Unicorns - I Was Born (A Unicorn) Lyrics
[DIAMONDS:]
I was born a unicorn
I missed the ark but I could've sworn you'd wait for me
[GINGER:]
I was born a unicorn
I could of sworn you believed in me.
Then how come all the other Unicorns are dead?
[DIAMONDS:]
Put your crystal's under my pillow
[GINGER:]
Send your epistle to my bedfellows
[DIAMONDS:]
If I stop believing in you
[GINGER:]
If you stop believing in me
[DIAMONDS:]
If I stop believing in you
[GINGER:]
If you stop believing in me
We're the Unicorns,
We're more than horses,
We're the unicorns,
And we're people too!
That song is entirely a conversation between two unicorns.

Why not lemons or an aeroplane?

Their band named The Unicorns.
They seem to be obsessed with unicorns and death. I would recommend trying them out. Their songs are catchy and they have absolutely no structure. There isn't a single chorus in any of their songs.

Hooray for lack of traditional song structure.
Hee, I just listened to "Inoculate the Innocuous".
"Small doses, daily
Absorbed and collected in the glands of fatty tissues over time
Somewhere in the asshole of my eye
There's a muscle which relaxes when you cry
Somewhere in the eye of my brain
There's a muscle which makes me go...
Storage cells for hidden substance
But new flavours and aromas go on
Reflect on your absence
Genuflect in my presence
Remove your absess, they said it's cancer
(flavourful, beautiful)
Bananas help me unwind
Watermelon makes it awesome"
How odd.
You're right, they're pretty good.

That was their debut, and I think they have another coming out this year. I hardly think they can keep up that sort of quality. I couldn't come up with that many catchy hooks in my entire lifetime.

Obvious tribute to Anne Sexton (Confessionalist Poet).
Damn good stuff, inspirational to boot. Must read for feminists and feminists sympathysers alike, foodie (like Torie) and my favorite poet.
Sample:
THE ADDICT
Sleepmonger,
deathmonger,
with capsules in my palms each night,
eight at a time from sweet pharmaceutical bottles
I make arrangements for a pint-sized journey.
I'm the queen of this condition.
I'm an expert on making the trip
and now they say I'm an addict.
Now they ask why.
Why!
Don't they know
that I promised to die!
I'm keeping in practice.
I'm merely staying in shape.
The pills are a mother, but better,
every color and as good as sour balls.
I'm on a diet from death.
Yes, I admit
it has gotten to be a bit of a habit--
blows eight at a time, socked in the eye,
hauled away by the pink, the orange,
the green and the white goodnights.
I'm becoming something of a chemical
mixture.
That's it!
My supply
of tablets
has got to last for years and years.
I like them more than I like me.
Stubborn as hell, they won't let go.
It's a kind of marriage.
It's a kind of war
where I plant bombs inside
of myself.
Yes
I try
to kill myself in small amounts,
an innocuous occupation.
Actually I'm hung up on it.
But remember I don't make too much noise.
And frankly no on has to lug me out
and I don't stand there in my winding sheet.
I'm a little buttercup in my yellow nightie
eating my eight loaves in a row
and in a certain order as in
the laying on of hands
or the black sacrament.
It's a ceremony
but like any other sport
it's full of rules.
It's like a musical tennis match where
my mouth keeps catching the ball.
Then I lie on my altar
elevated by the eight chemical kisses.
What a lay me down this is
with two pink, two orange,
two green, two white goodnights.
Fee-fi-fo-fum--
Now I'm borrowed.
Now I'm numb.

Hmm, I haven't come up with one catchy hook in 6 years of playing instruments.
...

I bet they're stealing other peoples brains and using them to write catchy hooks!
Like mine!
Then they give them back after they're drained.

They stole this one from mine:
From the song Tuff Ghost:
the tuff ghost disappears for 3 days
the tuff ghost is set in his ways
i don't want to hurt you
GHOST
well you can't, 'cuz i'm already dead
the tuff ghost is invincible
no guts came out when he bled
GHOST
well i lift weights, but i don't sweat.
i go for a swim, but i don't get wet
i don't care about anyone else
i'm a strong dead man, looking out for himself
I know that I was the one who thought of those lyrics.
