I know! I know! Its a bit early, but I dont have much to look foward to in the next 4 years so I've set my sights on 2008. Who do you think will be the Democrat's Nod and who do you think should be?

I think that it is going to be Hillary Clinton for the Democrats nod. Which I think would be a HORRIBLE idea. Very polarized. Not really going to get the oh soo sought after "undecided" vote. She is already hated amoung varies groups of conservatives. She would definatly spark more Swift Boat like ads.

Who I think it should be? Feingold or Obama. Obama has a better chance I would say. Feingold won't get through cause his voting record will be changed upside down and sideways. Anyone's voting record could be spinned whatever was the spinner pleases, but his in particular because he looks at a lot of bills in context to Wisconsin and not to the Nation. If he sees something that he does not like in a bill he does not vote for it and does not give into party pressure. That is going to leave a lot of ammo for either the democrat's candidates early in the race or the republican monkey that runs against him in the main race. Too bad any Senator, and the ONLY I might add to vote against the Patiot Act, should be looked kindly upon as an independent thinker and Senator.

Obama, god I hope so. Bush, says he is an Uniter and not a Divider and we all pretty much know that is a pile of BS, liberal and conservative alike, but Obama here could be the real deal as far as that comes. He is just such a chrasmatic chracter and you cannot really not like the guy. My conservative great aunts were talking about how great a guy he seems after his speech at the DNC this summer. Being that he hasnt even been in the Senate more than a month we do not really know his voting record though. He could also have a John Edwards type of deal if he runs. I know several people in so called "Edwards country" that were very upset with him when he annouced that he was running and then later annouced that he was the VP candidate. Being that he didnt even finish his first term as Senator, a lot of people thought that he only really ran for senate as a launching pad for President. Also, that being on the campaign trail as long as he was that he really was not even there to vote on the issues in the senate.

So, probably round two of Clinton
Hopefully, Feingold or Obama.

After 25 years as a "yellow dog" Democrat I have quit the Democratic Party. I have come to agree with Ralph Nader that the Democratic Party needs to die and be replaced. They, along with the GOP, have just become another corporately controlled party that does not represent the working class people of the country. They have stupidly lost the last two presidential elections and have proven they stand for nothing.

The best thing for liberals right now is to give the Bushistas enough rope to hang themselves and rebuild a Progressive Party to replace the dead carcass of the Democratic Party.

I don't give a rat's ass which GOP-lite candidate the Democrats nominate for 2008.

Ogiek, that may have been possible in the old days, but with the sheer amount of money between the two major parties, there's no chance of a party "dying" and being replaced. That hasn't happened since the Whigs fell apart and were replaced by the GOP in the 1850s, I believe.

Back to the topic, if Hillary runs for the Dem nomination, she will win. That is a fact. She has money, power, and important friends. Now the question is: will she run? It's not a sure thing yet. She still has to run again for Senate in 06 (it looks like she doesn't have a strong opponent yet, Giuliani has declined, and Pataki has abysmal approval ratings). She may simply decide to remain in the Senate. But she's obviously testing the waters, taking some *right-wing* positions...I think she will run, and will easily take the Dem nomination.

Possibly challengers include Edwards (the VP candidate always seems to run the next time) and Bayh. But I think it's a done deal if Hillary runs.

And she is a stronger candidate nationally than people think. She polls very well among women. If she manages to take 60% of women nationally (not unbelievable), the Republican will need to take more than 60% of men, since men only make up around 45% of the total voters.

If you run as a Democrat against Hillary, you will probably end up dead, and she'll be cleaning out your office.

I think you overestimate how well she'll do. I don't recall ever seeing a poll that has her favorable #'s above mid-40's nationwide. Plus there's the fact that she will be a focus for the right to rally their people to come out against her. If you thought the campaigning was negative against Bush, I'm betting you ain't seen nothin', yet! Clinton running assures a large Republican voter turn-out.

And I really have to wonder what people are thinking propping up Obama so much. They guy is a few weeks into a senate career. So what? Let him show that he can be a national leader and then maybe we'll see. 2012 at the earliest for him to be a legit candidate.
