No, he just cited the good stuff by Queen, before they went soft in the head. i.e. up to and including A Night at the Opera. If they had quit then, it would indeed be a close thing, but Queen have produced far more rubbish than Led Zep, so my vote goes to Page, Plant, Bonham and Jones.

Come now; Zep helped to create a whole new way of doing music -- one that still goes on. And who's to say there'd have been a Queen without Zep's musical influence? What I saw of 'Freddie Mercury, Mark One' didn't strike me as especially out there, not like he became later.

My instinct is to ask, "Who's the daddy?" and to answer, "Zep".

But I'd like to see it debated, just because I haven't thought about it before, so I haven't checked out the timeline. I'm going strictly by memory on this.

you can't compare two classic greats! thats just wrongwhat about the rolling stones? what about Black Sabbath? what about lynyrd skynyrd?

Queen rocks. Freddie Mercury was a brilliant mind, and did indeed deliver some sexually charged performances... However, sometimes the shows were over flamboyant for my tastes - inviting critics to note that it became more about an entertaining show than about music.

This said, one cannot deny the equal genius of Zep. - nor the explosive chemistry that the bandmates shared on stage - Zeppelin was a sexual experience in and of themselves! Though the shows were dynamic, the effort always focused on the most important thing... the music.

These are both great bands - but I think Led edges out Queen quite readily for my tastes. ;)

guys why are you comparing zep and queen they are to two different typess of music.

queen is the best 80s rock there was but is still very poor and i personly don't like it and zep is just good old rock with some realy cool ideas in and prob was the main influince in modern music

and for your list you forgot "the lemmon song" how could you as well as communication breakdown, what is and should never be, since i've been loving you and the battle for evermore

Personal opinion you can pick Queen, but I hope you all understand Led Zeppelin is superior in almost every way, including talent.

I voted for Led Zeppelin.

Zeppelin were undoutedly superlative, but Queen is my all-time favourite band ever! I have few regrets in life, but one was never getting to see them perform live :(

PS. I agree with Schnappslant that Highlander wasn't great but members of Queen weren't directly involved with its making, acting or direction, so you can't give that as a reason for voting for Zeppelin!

As a general rule, I love both and will listen to either dependant upon my mood. However, I think the best song between the two is Bohemian Rhapsody, yes, edging out even Stairway to Heaven (Which, in my opinion, isn't even Zep's best. I like the Immigrant song better.)

I envy you ;_; I want to go see Megadeth, and the nearest they're coming to me is Toronto, which is a damn near 2 days drive from me, or many hours on plane...

The System Has Failed tour, huh? I'd really like to see on of the concerts... I like how Megadeth generally holds smaller venues and focuses on the metal as opposed to flashy light shows. Plus, they're faster and more intense than their 'big brother' Metallica. Fools of pop culture, Megadeth is godly! Metallica are grunge whore sellouts!

Led Zeppelin and Queen are two very different genres. Zepp is hard rock and Queen is really pop-rock. I think if you have to compare, Zepp is better than Queen, because they did it first and seems like to me that much of Queen's (and similar groups) greatness is inherited from the giants that came before them. Plus I can't stand a lot of Queen's later vocals in their 80's stuff.

Led Zepplin made most of their music while stoned or under the influence of mind altering substances. Queen mostly didn't. Hence the difference in music. I love both bands, but my money has to go with Queen based on commercial success and the fact they released 3 Greatest Hits albums over Led Zepllin's 1 :p
