This diagram shows a different part of the shoot out! (http://www.rodhunt.com/web%20media/3dmodels/fhm_r.jpg) and here is when the cops finally showed up. Cops! (http://www.rodhunt.com/web%20media/3dmodels/fhm_q.jpg)

Hmmmm

I was a 7th-grader at Minocqua-Hazelhurst-Lake Tomahawk Elementary School (MHLT) in Minocqua, WI.

Depends on time of day and what day it was. If it was a school day, I was in school or outside at recess or eating lunch (can still taste the pizza and the lasagna.. lol) or in gym class or at track practice. Having snow on the ground makes track really, really fun. lol

If it was a weekend, i was playing video games or maybe skiing in the UP with friends.

On day one of Spring Break, my junior year of High School, watching my dad deteriorate from the cancer in his lungs and brain, not knowing he would be dead in 36 days. Being a monday, it was mostly full of driving Dad back and forth from our house in Houston's west side to the VA hospital downtown for treatments.

That evening would be spent helping him to the bathroom and making him as comfortable as possible.

Thanks ... thanks a lot ....

The question stands.

Tuesday? I would have been 17 years old and at school. I would have discovered live hardcore bands playing in my city about four weeks previously and no doubt would have been listening to bands like Carcass, Napalm Death, the Instigators or Boltthrower at some point. I had a check through my records and it seems that I may have seen two Scottish hardcore bands play about four days before this date - possibly called Dreadful and Chaotic Subversion.

The HydroQuebec Blackout of March 1989

On March 13, 1989, at 2:44 am, a transformer failure on one of the main power transmission lines in the HydroQuebec system precipitated a catastrophic collapse of the entire power grid. The string of events that produced the collapse took only 90 seconds from start to finish. There was no time for any meaningful intervention. The transformer failure was a direct consequence of ground induced currents from a space weather disturbance high in the atmosphere. 6 million people lost electrical power for 9 or more hours.

The space weather disturbance that produced this devastation was a great magnetic storm. Great magnetic storms are awesome disturbances in the near-Earth space environment that occur relatively rarely. The last five occurred in February 1986, March 1989, March 1991, November 1991 and May 1992. The frequency of large and great storms increases markedly as we enter the maximum in the solar activity cycle. The next predicted maximum is in the year 2000 (the last solar maximum was in 1989). Better warning of impending space weather events would allow power companies to take steps to reduce the load on sensitive circuits, delay maintenance and equipment replacement, prevent the development of large potential drops by selectively grounding sensitive devices and inteligently deal with systems designed to automatically protect the network during the duration of the event. This is the best way to prevent costly and dangerous black out situations triggered by space weather events.

Bradley Nowell still rules!

ok, back on topic now...

March 13, 1989 - A Monday, so I'll assume I was at school for the better part of the day. I would have been at the tender age of eight, so I was probably chasing girls around the playground with my comrades on the breaks - most likely snakcing on one of those long forgotten packets of processed cheese that came with mini soda crackers and a little red stick to spread that horrible cheese about. (can you imagine eating this filth on a daily basis!!) I was also probably drinking some form of soda from one of the last remaining glass bottles in existence, given my tastes it was probably a root beer too - Hires way back when you could still get that, or maybe an RC cola.

I'm sure I was wearing my aviators, the kind that folded up so you could tuck them into your pocket, leaving my hands free to pack my A-Team lunch box. Later that night when I got home, I probably listened to a little Bad Religion, G'n'R, RHCP, Robert Palmer, Bob Seger, and I'm sure that annoying Bobby McFerrin (sp?) was on the radio as well. Later that night, since it was a Monday - we probably spent at least part of the night watching TV, but since I dont recall which programs aired when Ill have to assume it was one of the following; Cheers, The Wonder Years, Who's the Boss, Growing Pains or Fraggle Rock. I'm pretty sure that the Racoons only came on on Sunday Evening - in between regularly scheduled hockey games, so it wouldnt have been that.

Then later, after we ate some type of dessert (usually a pie, or some peach cobbler) my brothers and I usually found some way to get ourselves into trouble, lighting things on fire, blowing things up, building things (typical kid stuff - you know) - well into the night. Until the darkness could be denied no longer, and we were inevitably called in and sent to bed. I'm sure this was an average day for any kid at that time and age. I sure do miss those days.
