Where do you live? India??
Where do you live? India??The US, however I been around enough years so that I've seen much more than is on your list. I also have a preference for sketch comedey over sitcoms, so SCTV beats just about every show on your list, in my opinion. Actually I find the sitcom to be a poor form for comedy, the constraints of keeping a continuous background going prevents the comedians from fully exercising their ability. And when we condsider the effects of forcing the production of new comedic material once a week for 13 weeeks, too often it is just easier to rely overmuch upon preset gags and tell the same jokes over again.

Whose Line Is It Anyway (I'm assuming you're referring to the American version) was the bastard child of the British show, which was infinitely funnier.
So, as either I've not heard of the others, or they were just crap, I'm going with The Simpsons.

Max & Paddy's Road To Nowhere. Peter Kay is, and always will be, god of British comedy. Although did any Brit's see Bill Bailey's Kraftwerk cover of the Hokey-Cokey? That had me in fits of laughter.

Blackadder... Red Dwarf, Yes, Minister. Each of these is true hilarity. On the subject of the Bill Bailey Kraftwerk tribute, yeah, that entire DVD/performance is fantastic, though. Maybe slightly too much of the magic bar of sound in the music sections, but prettty much perfect.

all those shitty shows outranking i love lucy, did anyone who voted for friends or sienfeld EVER see i love lucy?
From the poll, I chose "Who's Line..."
But, Monty Python eclipses them all.
"Newhart" is another classic than makes me pee my pants.
"Dream On" rocks...funny and a healthy dose of T&A.

We should sell it to the US as a documentry. They'd go for that. Anyone who thinks Benny Hill is funny wouldn't see anything funny in it.
As for previous posts.. Bill Baily is a warped genious god of comedy also good is Johnny Vega's new show "Ideal" .
As for the American stuff...it's all a bit sad apart from the Simpsons which is a great parody of American life and is thus funnier fromthis side of the atlantic.

Blackadder is the greatest comedy.
But as you didn't extend the poll beyond US shows I'll go for the Simpsons. Although, as I'm watching five year old episodes it may have gone down-hill recently.
I Love Lucy and Friends both "jumped the shark" and should be discounted. Discuss.

Red Dwarf, Some episodes of Fawlty Towers, Black Books (Know as “Crazy Shop” in Sweden), The Office (Cringe – laugh- cringe), The smoking room (nothing happens and I still laugh enough to annoy others) and (I’m sorry but I love it) Futurama all deserve a mention.

Python was good. No doubt. The Python team were great. But they had to produce a show every week and to be blunt a lot of it was crap.
That’s why the good bits shine out so well.
The best they did was “The Life of Brian” which is still one of my favourite films.
They don’t get my vote purely because of those crappy bits. The Gumbies for instance. What’s that about?
Buechoria
31-01-2005, 15:30
The gumbies were okay, but one episode they had them kind of "hosting" it.
It was terrible, to be honest. Most of the content was stupid and they just made it longer with their drawn out voice crap.

That's kinda what I'm saying. Just filler for the really funny stuff.
But if you're not young then you've seen it all so often most of it loses its edge. Not funny any more.
That's why most of my chioces are new stuff.

Agreed,
Spanish Inquisition, dead parrot, cheeseshop et al. Great stuff which passes the test of time and repetition. Mrs. Smokestoomuch and how to cook a piston engine (well you can't eat it raw). Brilliant.
And I was one of those children at that rally - yes it really happened- reported documentry style. Most moving.

I know, it is new to the comedic game, but it has proven itself to be quite funny. Even though most of it's catch phrases are way overused by pre-pubescent white boys, it still has great content and deserves a spot on your poll.

I voted MASH, but only because Men Behaving Badly wasn't in there. That's my all-time favourite, closely followed by Porridge, MASH, Only Fools and Horses, and Grace Under Fire (the only post-MASH US comedy I can relate to). I also don't think putting The Simpsons in these type of things makes much sense since it's an animated show.

Again, animated cartoons...
Personally I like to see polls like this kept to ones about character acted shows and animated shows.

Uh oh, gotta set some people straight here.....
The Simpsons, Monty Pythons Flying Circus, Black Adder, Mr. Bean, Jackass, Viva la Bam, Family Guy, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Red Dwarf, Faulty Towers, Keeping Up Appearances...................
Whats remarkable though is that allthough I've been in Austria for 5 months and been watching German and Austrian television for that amount of time, there are no great comedy shows of mention. Who'da thunkit?
I'd like to add my name to the list of outraged python supporters. I feel that even their "filler" stuff was at least amusing, and their best was pant-wettingly funny.

If english "humour" counts, then my favorite show is "the leaque of gentlemen".
Although it's not actually humour (actually it's something so sick only english people may have made it), it amuses my twisted little mind more than any other show I've seen. The characters are also extremely good, like the crazy vet who always accidentally kills all animals and the "local" shopkeepers (are you locals?). Just brilliant.
