George W. Bush's Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient, Paul Bremer, who headed up the US-led Coalition Provisional Authority, apparently has misplaced $8.8 billion dollars transferred to Iraqi government ministries, where it eventually ended up in a "black hole of fraud, kickbacks and fund misappropriation."

Don't you hate it when you leave a few billion dollars in your pants pocket and it gets lost in the wash?

don't you hate it when the U.S. government puts 9 billion dollars in the laundry and it gets lost in somebody's pants pocket?

The report said Bremer -- who recently received the Presidential Medal of Freedom -- issued an "angry eight-page reply" to Bowen's findings, criticizing the audit for misconceptions and inaccuracies.

Bowen's office could not be reached for comment late Sunday.

I assure you we'll be hearing more about this in the coming days. We'll see what the truth really is. Untill then let's not jump to conclusions.

9 billion. That's not very much. The government probably spends more than that on toilet paper daily.

You forgot "according to Time magazine". Also, the only things in the audit were missing paper trails and the fact that 2.5 billion of Iraq's own money from the Oil for Food program went unreported for several months and was then reported and taken into account. So until the article actually comes out all we have is 9 billion - 2.5 billion missing, and even then the rest might not be as missing as claimed.

Yeah, that was a bit of a bummer. While someone should investigate this thouroughly, I wouldn't be up in arms about it. There's plenlty more where that came from.
