Biology or Earth Science?

Help! Should I take Biology or Earth Science in my freshman year of high school? I know it's a stupid thread, but i need help. Since I took Algebra this year, 8th grade, I can take Bio next year. Earth Science is supposed to be boring, but it's a little less challenging. Keep in mind: In bio, I'll be with sophomores.bleck.

Bio. Earth science is utterly useless. Oh, and don't worry about the sophmores, they are nice people.

definitely take bio if u can get into it. dunno how your hs works but the one i went to u had to take ES before bio unless u placed out

I recommend bio. It's funny how the order taught in high school is bio, chemistry, and then physics though, when it should be the inverse. But I guess it is because the math needed for each class gets harder in that order.

since i'm taking geometry next year i think my math and science will be screwed up if i take earth science because i think you're supposed to take bio and geometry at the same time

yeah knowledge of calculus is very very helpful for physics and most people don't get to calc until junior year or later.

Geometry doesn't have much (nothing I can think of at the moment anyway) to do with biology, so I wouldn't worry.

If you're ambitious and have dreams of doing anything even remotely related to medicine, then take biology. If you're lazy and just need to take a science course, take earth science. Personally, I find earth science to be about 1000x more interesting than biology.

That is why I think kids should be taught up to calculus beforehand, leaving out everything but basic science and then teach that in high school. Because math is the basis for physics, which is the basis for chemistry, which is the basis for biology and earth science. Whether this would be practical or not...

Definitely take Biology. Earth science is the most useless class in high school. Biology is a bit more difficult (still not hard though), but that's because you are actually learning new information, not doing such useless activities as drawing the "rock cycle" and similar projects.

BIO! I teach bio, take bio, bio is much more interesting, earth science is physics, calculations and measurments and stuff bleck

I wouldn't say earth science is useless. Learning it helps us better understand the world around us, just like biology does.

If you plan to go to college, take Bio. No college looks upon earth science as being a good course. Bio is a requirement for most. In my personal opinion, I found it quite easy. Then again, that all depends on your natural talents, willingness to work, teacher, and how it's taught. But definitely bio over earth science. Earth science was taught at my school in either 7th or 8th grade (yes, this was way back in the day). I took bio in 10th, so I got to have both, and I personally found the earth science to be a bit more challenging than bio because its themes were broader and it jumped around more rather than having a continuing theme that builds on itself like bio. I hope this helps!

i think that the bio chem phys order most high schools have is pretty good... most of the chemistry they teach in high school is pretty much basic science and does not require any understanding of calculus. High school level chem gives students a good feel for the subject.

I took geom my freshman year and had a blast in Earth Science. It may sound weird, but Earth Science really will help you when you get to Biology. It sets a base up for you. I had a friend that skipped Earth Science and she had quite a bit of trouble in Biology. She was second in the class, too. Just because you can skip Earth Science doesn't mean you should. Just think about that.

While Earth Science may be interesting in principle, in practice, low level Earth Science courses are boring as hell, and teach next to nothing. Take the bio if you actually want to learn something, and take a course in Earth Science in college if it interests you.

to the left of a message you post it says something like "Today, 11:15 PM" even though it's like 3:00 where you are so is this like Nationstates time because i'm not feelin it.

In my opinion the classes you take before university don't matter. I took latin, greek and switched to science and math by the end of "high school" (it's not called that in my country). I had to take a math test to take the most difficult scientific course at university. I 'prepared' myself by studying all the math i had learned in the past 6 years. For 4 days i woke up in the late afternoon, studied for 3 hours and went out to celebrate my graduation. During the first month at university i had allready seen more than in 6 years of highschool...

but then, i am just the tiniest bit biased, since i was a Bio major and am now in a Biomedical Sciences graduate program...
