Okay, on Friday we had a mock SOL (Standards of learning - imagine the SATs dumbed down for elementary and middle scholers) writing test, to give us an idea of what the real one would be like in March.

Mrs. Cain, my English teacher, suggested we bring a book, as we had two hours to write. It took me about thrirty minutes to write the story (we were instructed to describe the funniest thing that's happened to us) about my friend Will and I in the cafeteria and how Will yelled, "Get the keys! Get the keys!" and grabbed some teachers keys off a table nearby. It was really stupid.

Anyway, the book I brought was Hitler's Sky Warriors, a book about the Fallschrmjager. Of course, if you ever read anything with the name Hitler on it or it has a picture of the swastika inside it, you're automatically labeled a Nazi.

There are three Jewish girls in my English class who went insane at the site of a book with the word Nazi or Hitler on it. I hid the book in my locker after the test so no one else would call me a Jew hater or something.

To make matters worse, I am mostly German, and I love Germany. My liking Germany just fuels the fire.

This is disgusting, that I can't even read about WWII without being automatically called a fascist.

Please dont blur the lines between Fascist and Nazi. They are quite distinct, and its not hard to figure out.

Yeah, it sucks - I was reading Eye of the Needle a few years ago (and theres [OMG] a swastika on the front) and some Jewish kid nearby freaked out.

I read books of the sort that people tend to get offended at as well. I had the same problem in school.
My solution was to politely answer any questions if asked, explain if someone gets offended, and if they continue to be offended then they are simply stupid. Which was often the case, unfortunately...

Just say it was an anti-Hitler book, even if it wasn't. I doubt they would care enough to check, and it would shut them up.

next time someone metnions it, remind them that the nazi's persecuted people based on what they read (book bannings, burnings, etc.) and perhaps before they ridicule you for trying ot better yourself by learning about an important and terrible part of human history, they should consider who they emulate. :headbang:

haha. i was kicked out of high school for writing a term paper on how evil affirmative action is. i even sent letters to our state law makers, demanding they stop the practice, and make it illegal. guess what? i am part black. i also have other beliefs that were, and still are, believed to be sociopathic. (dont even ask me about the nationalist/socialist thing)oh fucking well. stand up for what you believe in. blacks, jews, native americans,whites, whatever the fuck, whoever the fuck has been "damaged" by the past and everyone else that lost in history needs to get the hell over it. things happen. they happen for a reason. and you cant change them.and the answer to never letting "history repeat itself" is NOT acting like a victim, who was not even alive when historical atrocites took place.

I dont meant to pull the race card, but I am african american and I get accused of being "white washed" because I speak proper english and I read and stuff. It sucks.
