As a newbie I am struck by the number of young people (<18) on this board carrying out intelligent, rational conversations and I am curious as to the age distribution. When I was 16, I was too busy pursuing evanescent athletic glories and trying to get my hands on some beer to think about wordly issues.

I am a 23 year old graduate student who uses this board as an escape from my studies. I love this board, keep up the intellectualism, cheers!

I'm 19.

When I was 16, I was too busy being existential and moping around in corners to hold rational debate. Actually, that's most of what I'm doing when I'm not on the computer still.

Haha... I remember feeling that way. I still am young. But if there's one thing I've learned in these past two years is that time goes really fast. It'll fly by you before you even notice it.

I don't actually feel that young generally. I'm pretty mature and have been through a lot so have had to grow up. Just when I think about it I realise how young I am.... Yet I'm still old enough to reminisce about times gone by... don't worry, I'm in a weird mood :p

They happen very fast, then they catch on fire and burn up.

Because they don't last long.

20 (21 in a month and a half)

I started "intellectual" debates when I was 17. I got internet when I was barely 14, but I never really saw any debates so I can join in until later. I like to discuss, so I just never had the chance untill I got that (crappy internet) AOL, where I learned a lot at a Middle Eastern Conflict debate. Sometimes I laughed, sometimes I got pissed off. Then I stopped for a while until I came to NationStates, and found many "self-enlightened" 14 year old boys that have it all "figured out". What surprises me most, is the lack of criteria most (not all) have, and that they write as if they had Ph.D.s. I also lacked some criteria back then probably. Perhaps I say it because I used to have a lot of political stances that now I don't or are very different. I opened my eyes. I hope most of you do.

When I was 16 I was head banging to the loudest, heaviest music I could find wasted on alcohol and god knows what else
