Gay Marriage: Vengeance!

The thread on gay marriage in Canada made me want to find out people's opinions on this...

Do you think that once people notice that gay marriage is legal in Canada and nothing bad happens, like the collapse of society some conservatives are on about, that this will have an impact on America?

i dont have enough faith in your average american to expect them to say "look, its working for the canadians, it can work for us! lets be like canada!"

As I said in the other thread, there will be some people who sit up and think "Hm, maybe gay marriage isn't so bad afterall", but a vast majority of the current population currently against it will only see what their prefered news outlet tells them, meaning the small minority of exceptions to the rule will be generalized out to say "Canadian gay marriage brings great domestic unrest" by the current authoritarian media groups.

As sad as it may be, I tend to agree with you.

American media just has the habit of showing only what pleases the conservative administration currently in power lately.

They'll talk about it the same way they do the evil Canadian health plan. God forbid poor people should get healthcare.

Oh, those perverse Canadians, allowing gays to marry. And that means everything else the Canadians do differently must be evil/socialistic/perverted.
Ergo, universal healthcare is evil.

[...] universal healthcare is evil.

Of course it is. Actually, it's part of the gay agenda.

Everything's part of the gay agenda.

(Edit: because we all know gays are evil socialists)

It'll just make Americans hate Canadians more.

I don't think many Americans will give and damn and I doubt their government will either. There are a lot of Canadians that don't care whether the same-sex marriage lesgislation goes through as well.

Yeah this will probably be what happens. If you ever mention that some such slightly socialistic program seems to be working in Europe and Canada, they will claim that Canada and Europe arn't as prosperous as the US and how we are vastly superior to them in, oh, so many ways. At least this has been my experiance when talking to conservatives in my neck of the woods, namely Nebraska we've gone blue in a presidential election around all of three times in the last century.

Ask them why such a prosperous nation has such a large number of people without healthcare. Other than the fact that we just don't give a damn.

but the immense waiting lines! giving people healthcare in order of necessity instead of wealth! utter craziness, i say. why should some poor person get to live while i have to wait in minor discomfort, when i clearly have more money that he does?

Why not instead of making some special rights to bond we just nullify straight marriages instead? That way marriage only has religious "privileges". (Faggots can do their own religions as they have already done)

Gay marriage... what's next, a state that either brainwashes with or forces egalitarian ideology on everyone? Oh, wait...

Perhaps we should be selective on who gets free healthcare and/or welfare. Like an eugenics program, but good.

Our current government is certainly not giving equal rights out like they should...

Of course it is not, it's forcing affirmative blac... ahem... action, therefore giving special rights to some group just because this one was as opressed as most groups were some time ago with just the *slight* difference of color and/or intellect. We went on a guilt trip and commited the fallacy of making laws that have made people hire someone before another second one thar is better than the first one just because of the first ones race... (and this is not the worst consequence of all)

But what about the immense urban legends?! giving people healthcare in order of necessity at a rate of minutes per person! utter craziness, I say. Why should some poor person get to live while I have to wait in line at the movie theatre to see Jim Carrey?! when I clearly have money to spare?!

What's this thread about?
