Best Rock Band Ever.

Mutant Dogs 3

Ok I decided to make this poll because a lot of people on the other one are getting confused and saying that the bands on there aren't good.

So - I've looked around and chosen what most people would roughly consider the ten best rock bands ever.

I know there will a great number of bands I miss out on - as the poll limit is ten - so if you think there is a good band you want to tell us about, by all means feel free to do so.

But that doesn't mean you shouldn't vote still. Just vote for the one you think is best. :D

What about Metallica (the old stuff)?

Lol - it was either them or AC/DC for number ten.

I was really close to choosing them but I googled around and saw most people reckon AC/DC's just a bit better. :headbang:

AC/DC is good, but I prefer the mighty Zep. Even if John is dead, they still rock.

Unfortunately, Led Zeppelin is the correct answer.

But Freddie Mercury was the best frontman ever.

Led Zeppelin is the most overrated, overpayed band in the history of Rock.

Music is subjective. It is all opinion. That is my opinion. *prepares to be flamed*

If its opinion your post is strongly worded to suggest that you are presenting fact.

When saying a band is good there is no such thing as a universal fact, just personal ones. Music is subjective.
FACT: Many people like LZ and I can't change that
FACT: They were influencial
FACT: They sold big and made loads of money
FACT: I think they suck
FACT: Music is subjective, therefore to me they suck

How does that make them overpayed? If a lot of people liked their music and bought their albums, then they are payed proportional to how well their music was recieved.

Where is the "other/none of the above" selection? There's only 2 of those that I would even consider buying an album of theirs. I guess out of the choices, I'd go with the Stones. I remember when they played in Columbus when I was living there. Lived prob over a mile or two away and STILL could tell what song they were playing. That's some serious volume right there.

Rolling Stones are way, way more overrated than Led Zeppelin.

I vote for the Beatles, because Iron Maiden isn't on here.

As a someone who is making most of my money as a musician, no one musician is talented enough to deserve that kind of money. I think the same thing about pro athletes, big time actors, etc. The people who should be getting paid the most are those who are actually important in the functioning of society. The teachers, police, firefighters, the soldiers, housebuilders etc.
But musicians making that much money makes me mad. When my album is finished I will sell it for enough to cover cost of production, and them make all the songs avliable for free download. Of course I have a big problem with corprate music has become anyways.

I agree they are overrated. I however like them some, and rather dislike zepplin. I am of the personal opinion that many of the best bands we will never hear, they are playing in a basement somewhere, and don't care to break it. Or do want to break and have the luck that the record rep who listens to them happens to like one style and they are something he doesn't etc.

I second that. I voted AC/DC, simply because they are the band I'd listen to most on that list, and are the most influential to me. (I mean, directly to me, not that I see many more bands out there directly influenced by AC/DC than any other on that list.)

It's the Beatles, hands down. No other band has had more influence on music as they have. The number of bands that came after they did that have clear influences from them is impossible to count. There are still radio stations all over the country that play extended sets of Beatles music. I don't hear that kind of thing being done for Led Zepplin, or the Stones, or anyone else. (ok, there is the occasional early morning or late night show featuring the Dead)

The Beatles.

On the other hand, Led Zeppelin have struck a chord with the current generation of youth, while the Beatles haven't really made much of a revival.

I would have voted for Dream Theater if they were on there. Don't really care about influence or whatever, I just prefer them to the choices. They're not there, so Nirvana it is.

I didn't vote on the poll, because my favorite band isn't on there, and I won't vote for anybody else as best band ever.

I too, am suprised The Doors got no votes...in my opinion they, along with The Beatles and Led Zeppelin are the only bands on that list that deserve votes as "Best Band"

That being said...someone said Led Zeppelin is overrated...I can see that, although I disagree. But I'm going to take that idea further.

The Beatles are overrated

Influential, yes...but lots of bands are influential...that The Beatles are so influential simply shows how much earlier they came about. (Earlier than any other band on the poll)

But honestly...anyone with an ear could state with certainty that Ringo Starr is one of the worst drummers EVER...and none of them really learned to sing well until AFTER the band had broken up.

Some good songwriting, a teen-pop following of baby-boomers, and a murdered band member, and somehow your the best band ever...

For one thing, although Beatles technically were rock, I don't like to classify them together with AC/DC, etc. For another, where's Pink Floyd? They kicked way more ass than the shitty Eagles... or most of the rest of that list...

As far as a rock band goes, though, I'm going to have to say AC/DC. They pretty much define rock in my mind. Foo Fighters have some really awesome stuff, too... Doors, Zep, etc all were enjoyable, but just didn't rock as hard, you know?

No Pink Floyd? Travesty (I'm sure that's already been said though).

The Eagles best rock band ever?

The Dude: Jesus, man, could you change the channel?

The Dude: I had a rough--
Cab Driver: I pull over and kick your ass out!
The Dude: Come on, man. I had a rough night and I hate the fuckin' Eagles, man!

Oh and 1st for The Doors. Little known fact, they still rock even though Jim is dead. I saw them last year.

The Doors are overrated, they were about the 10th best rock band of their time.

That being said...someone said Led Zeppelin is overrated...I can see that, although I disagree. But I'm going to take that idea further.

I would say that they are slightly overrated, but only because their they lost their edge in their later years.

The Beatles are overrated

This should be good.

Influential, yes...but lots of bands are influential...that The Beatles are so influential simply shows how much earlier they came about. (Earlier than any other band on the poll)

They are the most influential band ever. It has nothing to do with they came out, as rock music is not a linear progression.

But honestly...anyone with an ear could state with certainty that Ringo Starr is one of the worst drummers EVER...and none of them really learned to sing well until AFTER the band had broken up.

Ringo was embarrassing, but proficiency with an intrument does not equate to making a good song. Just like proficiency with a calculator does not equate to solving a tough equation.

Some good songwriting, a teen-pop following of baby-boomers, and a murdered band member, and somehow your the best band ever...

How about the best songwriting ever. How about the 7!!! albums they released between 1965 and 1970 that stretched rock music more than any band has done since. They were much more than teen-pop, and I would surmise that you know that. And they were considered the best ever before Lennon was killed.
