There are plenty of good ones. Zeppelin, DP, Sabbath, Metallica, etc. had some pretty good ones.
I never really have a permanent favorite. Right now, I'm listening to Deep Purple, so I guess my current favorite is Speed King or Space Truckn'. They're not the best songs, but I still thing they kick ass. If I had to pick a masterpiece song, then maybe "Since I've Been Loving You". But ranking Led Zep songs is fruitless, because the worst Led Zep song is better than the best song you hear on the radio. :)

I voted for the stones. It was a toss up between Satisfaction, and Skynard's Free Bird. I went with the Stones because Free Bird starts out kind of slow.
Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen) - genius
Stairway to Heaven (Led Zepplin) - great song
Freebird (Lynrd Skynrd) - never heard
Yesterday (Beatles) - not bad, Robbie Williams wrecked it for me
Satisfaction (Rolling Stones) - not even the Stones best
Hotel California (The Eagles) - i wouldnt put it on a list of top songs
Hound Dog (Elvis Presley) - ditto
Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana) - not even Nirvanas best
Hey Jude (Beatles) - tis ok
Like a Rolling Stone (Bob Dylan) - good song
out of the poll Stairway to Heaven or Bohemian Rhapsody

Probably wouldn't choose any of them. But out of the choices I choose Hotel California-it's maybe not the best but it's my favourite.
And how Nirvana are even on there is beyond me. It's an awful song, they are an awful band and are incredibly over-rated despite their blandness and total lack of talent.

Firstly - the lyrics are not nonsense. I think the bit you are referring to is the middle section just after Brian's guitar solo (I see a little sillouhetta of a man...). There are numerous words which are Persian and Arabic which are there because of Freddy's birthplace (Tanzia) and upbringing. Other words were used because they had significance to the band members.
Secondly - the guitar solo rocks.
Thirdly - the song keeps changing from slow to opera to heavy metal to slow again.

I am a big fan of Dire Straights, and I love 'Sultans of Swing', then again they are an AWESOME band.
Another big favorite band of mine is That Petrol Emotion, the one I like best of theirs is 'Cellophane'
Then there's The Pogues, their best song is 'Bottle of Smoke'
I like the Wolfetones too, their As Gaelige album rules.
So much for the west, on the East side, it gets complicated, I like Thompson, especially his song 'Prijatelj' it had a video I liked.
Sheila Chandra is another big favorite of mine, she did so much good stuff that it's impossible to just pick one, and Nedjma, same deal, a song that is called 'My Heart Burns' in English.

Of course they were popular here....they're from here.
We had then first. If they were crap we wouldn't have let you have them.

Just because, they're from your country doesn't mean they have to be popular. I've hated most American music after Chuck Berry and Elvis.

Bohemian Rhapsody was the considered argubly to be the best rock song because of what it contained and they way it was writted. To some people it may seem to be a bunch of crap, it does contain references, as previously said, to Freddies upbringing. It was also the first song to break the 5 minute barrier in this country and (at the time) still be considered good. It also borke away from the traditional rock genre by having opera sections in it that had never been seen before. Also, the video that was created was the most advanced at the time (although looks shoddy now, but is still good, like how half-life is still good even though you can count the pixels...) and was the most radical as such. Because of all those factors, it was one of the best rock songs around and still is.

True but if they can't make it here no-one will promote them in the US so you see my logic. Generally if you've heard of them they made it big here first 'cos it costs a lot to break the US market (and most UK bands fail).
It works the other way. Tom Petty rarely sell big in the UK (I like him but thats no recommendation) while he's still fairly hugh in the US.

I'm sure you like the song, but I don't, and I feel compelled to give my opinion.
It contains references to Freddy's upbringing? So what? That's of interest only to Freddy and his die-hard fans. A truly great song appeals to a wider cross-section of the population.
It broke the 5 minute barrier. Well the Ramones never had a song that even approached 5 minutes, but they are widely recognized as a great band.
The opera thing? Most people aren't fans of opera. Once again, a great song appeals to many people.
I haven't seen the video, but I feel a truly great song should be able to stand alone.
Once again, this is just my opinion. Please don't take offense.

None taken at all, the point is, the 5-minute barrier, the opera it was new. It had never been done before in a rock song, or any other song that came before it. It is because it was new that made it seem amazing at the time and it had just stuck. It seems to be a trend, anything that breaks into uncovered territory in the genre seems to stick as one of the greatest and its showed it this song in the same way that it showed it in Elvis' songs and style.

This list hardly does justice to rock. The Beatles? Rock? Eh, no, not really. I'm going to have to go with Stairway To Heaven. Led Zeppelin came out of a fluke, and they produced some of the most amazing music. If you don't recognize them as one of the best bands in the history of rock, maybe you should stick to your top 40 radio crap.
Speaking of Zeppelin, I'm sad to see that there aren't any Eric Clapton songs. DEREK IS ERIC!

It broke my heart. Some people don't classify him as being a rock god, but he's been so influential in classic rock. he was in the first band to become a international superband (yes, before the stones and beatles), he pretty much brought about Led Zeppelin, and he's had a 40+ year music career, and continues to put out great music.
Layla, Cocaine, Sunshine of my life, his cover of I Shot The Sheriff, Badge...Too many great songs to name.

Queen is my favorite band in the world so Bohemian Rhapsody was an easy choice for me. It's not my favorite Queen song though, or on my list of all time favorite songs in general, which in all fairness, isn't a very long list. If Let it Be or Penny Lane by the Beatles was on the list, i would have picked one of them. Bo Rhap is still a great song though.
This whole thing is subjective anyway. I for one have never been a big Zep or Rolling Stones fan, though i love Bob Dylan and The Beatles, they are my favorite artists after Queen. I think Zep and the Stones were hugely influential, i just don't like them.
If people considered Let it Be or Penny Lane rock songs, those would be my favorites. If not, Joy to the World by Three Dog Night is.
some of you know very little about rock most of you know a lot but me i think you cant poll rock elvis through death metal and beyond its all rock some of it sucks some of it is great but most of it doesnt compare to the rest, if you want to poll you have to poll genres of rock cause there is no one best.
by the way the reason the same songs always win the polls isnt because they r unquestionably the best but because they are the most famous(dont get me wrong i think every rock song on any top ten list ive ever seen kicks ass) :upyours: that smilly is awesome

All the songs in the pole are drastically overrated. That said the best one in the poll is Bohemian Rhapsody. The worst one, and in my opinion this one just sucks, is Stairway, long, obnoxious, not catchy, and the bassist is the only one with showing any impressive technicality. I'm biast though cause I hate zepplin and their lead singers voice just gets on my nerves. *prepares to be flamed*
