How fast does your car idle at?
How many miles per hour does your car go on a flat, level, straight road surface without pressive the gas, and leaving it in drive?
Umm, my car doesn't move if I don't press the gas pedal. It has a manual gearbox, so I don't think it should move without me wanting it to. :\

I drive manual. The car dies.
My Auto car.. well, less than the kph meter can record it. Mine starts at 20. So it's definitely less than 20kph/12.5mph

It stalls.

in my automatic, probably 1-3. The truth of the matter is that automatics don't actually idle while in drive. In manuals when you idle you don't move.
A better question might be at what RPM do you idle :p

I have a standard/manual, so I don't have a drive. If I leave it in gear, the car will stall out and lurch forward a bit. Maybe I'll get 1 or 2 notches on the speedometer. If I keep it out of gear, the car will just sit there and burn gas.

Probably would have been, yes.

i once had a car you could get up to 45mph on fast idle without touching the gas. if you touched it once however it kicked down to low idle and you had to keep one foot lightly on the gas at stops to keep it from stalling. you could adjust the carb, but it wasn't worth it, it just returned to its old pattern in a couple of days.
a rotted out 77 fury with rust holes in some of its patches, man i loved that ugly beast.

of course most automatics don't have tachs

My car's a auto, but it doesnt idle very well.
Hell, half the time when i push the accellerator, it doesnt go.
I need a new car...
I can just about coax my dad's car along at somewhere under 5mph if I'm easy on the clutch. Let the clutch off all the way without getting it moving first and it just stalls.

like if you slip the clutch a fair bit before taking it out completely?
just dumping it would stall it yea

I don't think it's possible to get a car going in fifth gear at idling speed. Hell, try go anything under 30 in fifth gear and the engine starts complaining.

meh, take out a 1999 1.2 Vauxhall Corsa, work your way up to fifth and then take your foot off the accelerator...now watch the speed drop until it reaches a steady 20mph....

Yeah, if you're really gentle on the clutch and let it get a bit of speed before taking it right off, it will keep going.

Aah yeah, with an engine that small I guess you can. It still can't be any good for it though.

In my [dad's] explorer it idles at about 20 miles per hour at around 750 RPM. Its an automatic 4.0L V-6.
1969 z28 it idles at 1100 rpm does about 20mph in first
