Lame Excuses:I go four wheel driving Cars make a big enough mess of our cities. Why would we want them to infest our wilderness and beaches too? Please find another way to use your time.I don't even 4wd, but this makes me want to. What arrogant fucks.

honestly, I don't understand why this particularly ticks you off. You must have heard this stuff thousands of times it is nothing new. My only issue is that the poster you are referring to is not posting any alternatives. What the poster is saying is true and not directed at one person so I am still puzzled why you were are so angered as to myself just dismissive of their message.

Like if I did an FAQ:
I like to bike instead of drive: You damn bicyclists slow down traffic and create a hazard on the road. Get in a car, you are inconveniencing me.
It's arrogant, 'holier-than-thou' and instead of convincing me tells me how immoral I am for not following their view.

Man, I just went to the website and they were saying "ride a bicycle instead". I thought, maybe that works down under but when it's -40 celcius in Regina, no one wants to be out on a god damn bicycle. Also, it says if you think it's your right, then you are ignoring everyone elses right to be safe and breathe clean air. I mean, what the hell? Our air was sh*t before the SUV. As for being safe, you can be killed in a car accident by any kind of car, whether it be big or large. SUVs are larger but if you rammed into a city bus head on, then you are screwed.

I agree, though in some cases helpful nobody likes to be told what they are doing is immoral, that is just offensive and doesn't help anyone. In school we learned that if you criticize someone it better be constructive criticism, not just a 'your wrong' argument.

The air has been of poor quality for sometime now, thanks to the industrial revolution and the coal factories. Now, SUVs are contributing but they didn't start it. The air is simply worse today because everyone and everything is polluting so much but the air wasn't perfect in the late 19th century (now thats mainly Europe but you get the point).

I agree with those 'environazis'! If you want to experiance nature, leave your technology at home. Just because your idea of fun is to tear up the landscape in a motorized vehicle doesn't mean the rest of us should have to live with the consequences. Do you know what the biggest problem along the rubicon trail is these days? Human feces! Yep, 4 wheelers can't be bothered to haul their own shit out with them. The trail has been turned into a toilet that contaminates the watershed and makes the area only usable to the passing drunks in their jeeps.
Before you say any crap about a few spoiling it for the rest, unless your willing to go and haul shit out of the area, save it. It doesn't change the problem.

Anti-enivronmentalists can't seem to grasp the concept of cleaning up the messes they make themselves.
And it is a lame excuse for acting like an idiot. Like family men who go on dangerous rock climbing trips "because its there."

SUVs are fine for Regina. It's a farming area anyway. But what for would someone need a SUV in New York or London for example?
If you don't live in a mountainous area, you are always faster with the bicycle in the city than with any car, provided the cyclist doesn't have to share the road with the car.
In Berlin you can take the bike into the subway. In 30 minutes you ride the bicycle from the suburbs to downtown, while with the car you need 15 minutes driving, and 15 minutes looking for parking space and another 10 minutes walking to where you want to go.

I thought, maybe that works down under but when it's -40 celcius in Regina, no one wants to be out on a god damn bicycle.Or when you're hauling a half tonne of tools. Imagine moving that bastard around the Lower Mainland in a trailer on the back of a bike. You'd wear out your brakes going down the first hill, assuming you'd even get it moving in the first place.

Anti-enivronmentalists can't seem to grasp the concept of cleaning up the messes they make themselves. I've been camping since I was born, at campsites that don't have a laundry, kitchen and pool table (We are talking solar showers and longdrops).
I don't leave rubbish and we don't leave any mess.
do they not realise that the whole point of 4x4s or "off road vehicles" is that they go...off road?

Or the consequences of not doing so. Though, to be fair, we can no longer just clean up after ourselves. We need to start cutting back on pollution from its source. We can not dispose of out waste as we used to be able to.

I have several beefs with SUVs, but they all relate with them being in a city.
Four wheel drive is MEANT for the country. If you have a big family, a farm, a business that requires you to haul stuff -- if you camp a lot, ski a lot, etc. GO FOR IT.
But a Hummer in Manhattan is impossible to see around, a hazard to drive around, and as useless as tits on a bull. And when I see a single, itty bitty little five foot tall woman in stiletto heels with a tight skirt more or less falling out of the drivers' door, it is NOT being driven for any reason other than OMG I CAN AFFORD THIS MONSTER!!!

A good idea would be to start zoning towns and cities for certain vehicle types. No-SUV zones and such in the city centers.

Stroudtizan (sp?) has an interesting idea. I wonder how feasible it is.
I agree with much of what's being said. First, environmentalism is hardly a Nazi attitude. (Let's not even get into the misuse of the term "Nazi".) We only have one planet, and it's going to be around for at least another 5 billion years before our sun swallows it: it's our choice whether we want it to be capable of supporting life for the rest of that time. Would we rather drive ourselves to extinction? If not, we'd better start learning how to take care of our world.
Second, SUVs aren't necessarily the problem--overuse is. I grant that some people most definitely need SUVs: I spend weekends in the mountains of West Virginia, where if I didn't have all-wheel drive I'd be pretty screwed. However, these gargantuan ubertrucks being marketed and sold at people who do nothing more strenuous than city driving is ridiculous. Certainly, the F-350 has its place--but that place is pulling horse trailers or hauling massive loads, not carrying three kids to school. My Subaru Outback is quite enough for my family--what's more, our second car (for city driving) is a small, efficient Toyota Matrix. It's a great solution for us: if more people would consider their transportation needs rather than their wants, we'd have a good bit less problems.
Third, transportation isn't an all-or-nothing venture. Why not ride a bike when you can--spring, summer, and fall, carrying light to medium loads over relatively short distances--and drive when you need to? Better yet, take public transportation when you can't bike: even considering the sorry state of my city's bus system, I manage to use it fairly often. If you don't have public transportation or if it won't take you where you need to go, use your car--just try not to use more car than you need.
Fourth, there are better ways to enjoy Nature than by tearing it up. I can understand wanting to use four-wheelers on hiking trails: however, they've been proven to cause serious trail damage, thus ruining the trail for other less consumptive uses. Yes, off-road is the point of off-roaders--but then again, wholescale murder is the point of atomic bombs. Would you prefer they be used at a whim, too?
Fifth, just because we already have environmental problems is no excuse to be causing new ones. We already have bad air--so we need to be cleaning it up, not claiming that this means every single empty-nester and single man needs to drive a Hummer.

...how was that even arrogant? they put it in a pretty polite way, and the DO make a decent point. global warming has gotten to the point that the entire inuit nation has sued the united states because their way or life is literally melting away and going extinct. no one needs a gas guzzler like that. I've made a point of not getting my driver's license, and I'm deliberately living in new york where the subways will provide for all my transportation needs. it's just irresponsible to drive a car more than you absolutely NEED to.

global warming has gotten to the point that the entire inuit nation has sued the united states because their way or life is literally melting away and going extinct. There is no inuit nation nor have they sued anyone. The closest the inuit come to a nation are Canadian territories, and the closest to a law suit they've come are land claim negoiations with the Canadian government.
