Why should someone be punished for commiting or trying to commit suicide?

What i dont get is that suicide is illegal and if you try and commit it you are arrested. so what are they going to do if you succed. try your dead body for manslaughter of your self. it just doesnt make sense. :confused:

Well, if you cause a train wreck and kill ten people, I think the state has a duty to assist in your suicide.
On the other hand, if you try unsuccessfully to kill your sorry self, the state has probably expended a fair amount of effort to save you in the form of medical assistance, traffic control, therapy(?), or other aid. Maybe restitution is the answer. Or making small ones out of big ones.

I believe only two states have laws against suicide, hopefully they will catch up to the rest of the 48 states because I also think such laws are ridiculous.

Generally so the courts can step in and mandate treatment. They aren't going to throw someone in jail for being suicidal.

Mostly that's just so that if you try to kill yourself, the state can force you to get help. I've never heard of someone going to jail for attempted suicide.

I belive it's illegal where I live.... I think it's classified as some sort of manslaughter or murder.
