Don't give up on your dreams!

Since I started posting on the General NS Forum, I have seen a number of posts by very young people who have allowed themselves to become cynical, depressed, apathetic, even suicidal. This is a very difficult thing for me to understand.

Even at my age, I have dreams. True, they're not the somewhat grandiose dreams I had when I was much younger, and there have been those moments when I allowed myself to become somewhat depressed. But I suppose I've been blessed with what is essentially an optimistic outlook on life. I learned from my mistakes, I decided that I can be happy regardless of the circumstances in which I find myself, and I learned that I can continue to work toward whatever dreams and goals I have at the time through patience and perseverance.

Please believe me when I say that things change and eventually things change for the better. If you find that your dreams are impractical, get new ones. If you discover that you don't have the necessary talents to accomplish what you originally thought you wanted, learn to want things which match your abilities and talents.

Set your goals high enough that you have to stretch, but not so high as to be unattainable. Set intermediate goals you will need to reach before your highest goals can be attained. Work backwards until you know what it is you have to do tomorrow to work toward your higher goals.

If you feel intimidated or inadequate to the task, set small goals you know you can achieve, do those, then begin to stretch for higher ones when you feel more confident.

Please try to remember that none of us comes out of this alive, that we're all in the same boat, and that many, many of the rest of us truly do care about you and your dreams. :)

This - especially the part about finding new dreams when your old ones become impractical - I have had to find out for myself recently.

It's all true. Listen to the man!

Depressed from news I got today, right here.

I'd like to note that it sucks.

And thank you for the kind words :)

Yes. This is probably true. But why have dreams when at the age of 16 I can be mistaken for an elderly bitter man from Yorkshire. I'm living my dream.

Wait, did I imply that I gave up?

Wait, did I imply that I gave up?

Um ... not that I remember. Why?
