Things I've Learned in My Time Away

In case nobody noticed, I'm back, officially with this post. That's 27 days away from the NS forums... and I didn't even think I'd make it past the first hour...
I've dropped out of college.
Ok, the more appropriate term to use is, "I'm taking a year off from college."
I decided, after much thought and advisement from close friends and advisers, that it is truly the best thing for me to do at this time. I need to get my perspectives and my mind on track to do the very best for me. A year off from college will do that.
So, now I have to find a job, makings lots of money, and be happy... sounds easier said than done.

You were gone? And you didn't even ask your fellow NS'ers about that college thing?

I know! Just think! Some of us actually have parts of our lives where NS doesn't come into play at all! ;)

Is that suppose to be a jab? :p

If it's not too personal a question, may I ask how you came to this conclusion?

WB! You're right ... it is easier said than done. But I have to admire your courage in being willing to set your college education asside for awhile. Let me know if I can help.

Arg, I forgot about it! I had to read something for my Comparative Government class by him though. What's it called again?

It's not that personal at all.
Basically, when I graduated high school in 2003, I wanted to take a year off to just get out in the world, work, and see what it's really life in the so-called "real world." However, because of my financial aid (I receive Veteran's Affairs benefits from my father's Air Force retirement/disablity), I had to start attending college immediately after graduation or risk losing $6500 a year for school.
So, I knew going into college that I wasn't really ready for the responsibility of it and my grades suffered quite a lot because I wasn't ready. Last semester, I failed all 18 credits (6 classes) I took, because I became apathetic to my university and my college career. I realized, as I started this semster less than three weeks ago, that I didn't really like my classes or even like what direction my life was going in while at this particular college.
Thus, I decided to take a year off, on academic leave, and research into other colleges (even possible an online degree) while working full-time, writing, and being an adult.
I want to go back to college eventually, and I want to make a name for myself in the world, but for now, I just want to be happy.
Dropping out of college, in all honesty, has made me happier in the last week than I have been in the almost last years of being in college.
BULL!!! That's impossible!!! :headbang:
No! It's true! I actually went through a Cross Country season WITHOUT the help of NS!

Oooh, me too! Dropped out and stayed out for 8 years, and after being homeless twice managed to finally restart but took 5 years through JC (stupid councilers, I asked specifically if I missed anything....anyway....) But I wouldn't have made it through on the first time even if I forced it. If you're not ready, your not ready.

You're not suppose to go straight into college after high school. You spend one year experiencing life for what it really is: a hunt for pussy.
