So Americans which source of news would you trust most?

Normally BBC, since it's mostly unbiased and apolitical.

For daily news I use American media, for International NEWS, I trust more BBC, EFE, AFP, Guardian, Independen, etc.

unlike FOX/CNN/AP...the BBC has not let me down.

until they do, they are on my "Independent media honor roll"

And oh so fair in its coverage of conservative issues . . .

For the international, the BBC.
For the country, washingtonpost.com

just quick checks, cnn, once in awhile fox, and msn.

I like the BBC, it's good for the international information the CBC tends to lack sometimes (even though it's very good on news coverage).

BBC by far

very definitely neutral and impartial in 99.9% of cases...even the ones where it was getting attacked

I trust many "American News Services" over one BBC - more viewpoints.

I remember the BBC had a news item about how no-one was watching BBC3 & BBC4 or something. That's pretty impartial.

BBC, not that I trust it (or any news source) implicitly. Anyone can make an error (not to mention the deliberate misuse of the media from bad apple journalists we've heard so much these days).

And sorry, I answered your poll before I saw that it was just for Americans.

...at least I'm on one of the American continents...

I remember the BBC had a news item about how no-one was watching BBC3 & BBC4 or something. That's pretty impartial. Is BBC 1, 2, 3, and 4 like the English Football League? Like, a show starts off on BBC 4 then if it is in the top 5 in viewership at the end of the season than it and the 4 other top shows go up to BBC 3 while the 5 bottom watched shows of BBC 3 go down?

Nah, BBC 3 was supposed to be for younger generations (not kids - probably late teens and twenties), and BBC 4 was supposed to be more highbrow - documentaries and stuff.

I'm not sure what the difference between BBC1 and BBC2 is.

I trust them equally. Then again, that depends on your definition of trust. The BBC is the most pessimistic news agency I have ever seen, while CNN and folks are dry. So normally, when I watch news on TV, I watch ABC World News Tonight (gotta love Peter Jennings).

Frankly, I think everyone's biased.

The BBC is fun because, in interviews and the like, they don't even TRY to pretend they're not biased. I think most American news broadcasters could learn a thing or two from them!

However, I'm also a huge fan of NPR (WHYY in Philadelphia - which has got to have one of the best programming schedules in the nation - compared to NYC, San Francisco/Bay Area, Boulder, D.C., and New Orleans, at least). They're quite interesting!

Plus, I can hear the BBC late at night and 9-10 AM on WHYY, so I get the best of both worlds. :D

(And other American news broadcasters? Crap. CNN is dull and too afraid of offending its sources - total bs. Fox is pure right-wing fluff. ABC, CBS, NBC, etc... all just are sensationalist zeros.)

Yes they could. Everyone has an agenda, but at least the BBC is honest about it: bash the US hard, then ignore it, and rarely visit any stories breaking on the shores of England, unless they involve the Queen.

Funnily enough, the most recent story I heard on the BBC was all about voting in Iraq and it was the most positive story I've heard (apart from the ones Bush's administration has been spinning).

The interviewers are instucted to take the opposing stance as it tests the depth of the argument. This makes for more interesting interviews and people possibly hearing a thing or two they usually might not.

i use a combination of US news things for the most part, to get the different perspectives. CNN, FoxNews (although it generally just makes me angry), Time, TimeEurope, tv news like NBC or ABC world news. Occasionally i venture over to the AlJazeera website to see if they have different perspectives.

Oh yeah, I know what you mean actually. I have noticed them taking the opposing stance even when it's obviously wrong.

I've noticed them be lenient when it suits them too.

::shrugs::

But everyone does that... even NPR.

(And judging from many of the interviews, their interviewers may also be instructed to take the opposing stance.)

ive never noticed it on the BBC, they pretty much always take an impartial view of things, or present both sides of the argument

even when the BBC was getting kicked about by the government last year, they still managed to report it as impartially as youd hope

That's way too optimistic.

You can tell they have a bias - just listen to the shows they headline, and how they describe them when they talk about what's up next. Selection, itself, shows bias... as does deceptively "objective" word choice.

I'm not sure what the difference between BBC1 and BBC2 is.

BBC1 is meant to fulfil the "public service" role of the corporation, while BBC2 is mostly entertainment-based.

How much World news do they have?
Not much if I remember correctly, I don't watch the show on regular basis.
I normally have MSNBC running, like just now -- The Abrams Report is on.

International news in USA basically means sections like "Around the World in 80 seconds"!!! Like you can give a good news picture of the world in 80 seconds... :headbang:

Sure i can do the whole world in 80 seconds:

USA: Go us, no need to stop there, ya'll know it's all good, nothing could ever go wrong. *ease collar".

Africa: Lots of poor people, you must help them they dont know any better... look they're having another war, isnt that sweet. no don't go help them now at least wait til the news has finished.

Europe: *cough* Move on nothing to see here, ya'll know they hate us, what more do we have to say, oh except, news just in, we're bigger than you. HA.

Asia: Filled with commies and stuff... there were a couple of humanitarian incidents a while back, but dont trouble yourselfs about it.

Australia: Wha?

...And finally a heart warming backwards tale from a small eastern european country that not even they can pronounce properly. Oh look at them doing quaint things, aah cute eh? Thats how all europeans live... what, i didnt actually say that.

Which kinda illustrates my earlier point... there's always bias, somewhere. So you just have to take everything with a grain of salt!!
