Just wondering if you think that the Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy movie coming out is going to suck or is going to be awsome

As much as I hope for it to be one of the greatest movies ever, I think it'll bomb. For numerous reasons...

I mean, first of all, I saw the cast in character. Marvin IS WAY TO FUCKING HUGE!

You do know he's being played by a midget?

It's possible that, contrary to what I would have imagined, I have grown too old for blanket cynicism. The fact is that the books are funny, and the people making it seem to be fans. Mos Def seems like weird casting, but he is funny.

I just don't have it in my to start crapping on a movie based on some teasers and stills.

If that ruled the day Lord of the Rings would never have happened. Granted, neither would the new Star Wars films, but it's a small price to pay.

So really, ask me when the movie is actually out. I'm not going to torpedo someones work before it's even seen the light of day.

6 x 9 :)

Personally, I'm hoping it's going to rock the face of the earth, shattering the foundations of our knowledge, giving way to a new style of homestyle entertainment, paving the roads of the interstellar mind with pork, a feast for the brain in the way only comprehensible to those who know how to enjoy it, and..

Err, it's gonna be cool! :D

It may be a good movie, but only because the writers take great liberties with it. After all, a great chunk of the humour is derived from the descriptive prose in his work rather than just the dialogue.

I mean, how do you translate any of these gems to the screen?

The ships hung in the sky in much the same way that bricks don't

Brockian Ultra-cricket (a curious game which involved suddenly hitting people for no apparent reason and then running away)

The story so far: In the beginning the universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move

Number Two's eyes narrowed and became what are known in the Shouting and Killing People trade as cold slits, the idea presumable being to give your opponent the impression that you have lost your glasses or are having difficulty keeping awake. Why this is frightening is an, as yet, unresolved problem.

He picked up the letter Q and hurled it into a distant privet bush where it hit a young rabbit. The rabbit hurtled off in terror and didn't stop till it was set upon and eaten by a fox which choked on one of its bones and died on the bank of a stream which subsequently washed it away.

During the following weeks Ford Prefect swallowed his pride and struck up a relationship with a girl who had been a personnel officer on Golgafrincham, and he was terribly upset when she suddenly passed away as a result of drinking water from a pool that had been polluted by the body of a dead fox. The only moral it is possible to draw from this story is that one should never throw the letter Q into a privet bush.

Even the dialogue is interspersed with that sort of thing, like:

Please relax," said the voice pleasantly, like a stewardess in an airliner with only one wing and two engines, one of which is on fire, "you are perfectly safe

Still, it has possibilities. There is some great dialogue and provides a wealth of great material. But the writers will need to find their own way to convey a different variety of humour than what Adams was presenting.
